Our client is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its corporate accounting team in Brentwood, TN. This role will have primary responsibility for the company’s fixed asset accounting function across a multi-location organization, while also supporting lease accounting, general ledger activities, and the month-end close process. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented accounting professional with strong fixed asset experience and a solid understanding of lease accounting. This person will be responsible for the accounting lifecycle of capital expenditures, depreciation, transfers, disposals, and leases, while also gaining broad exposure to the corporate accounting function.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the full fixed asset accounting lifecycle, including additions, transfers, disposals, retirements, and depreciation.
Review capital expenditures and supporting documentation to ensure assets are properly classified and capitalized in accordance with company policies and US GAAP.
Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset subledger to the general ledger and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
Prepare monthly fixed asset schedules, depreciation calculations, account reconciliations, and related journal entries.
Monitor construction-in-progress and capital projects, ensuring costs are appropriately tracked and transferred to fixed assets when placed in service.
Coordinate asset disposals and retirements, including calculation and recording of gains or losses.
Support lease accounting activities, including maintaining lease schedules, recording lease-related journal entries, and performing lease reconciliations in accordance with US GAAP.
Assist with the review and accounting treatment of new, modified, and terminated lease agreements.
Partner with Operations, Procurement, and other business teams to ensure accurate and timely recording of capital expenditures and lease activity.
Support the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
Assist with financial reporting, variance analysis, and other accounting schedules as needed.
Support internal and external audits by providing fixed asset, lease, and other accounting documentation and supporting schedules.
Identify opportunities to improve fixed asset and lease accounting processes, controls, reporting, and system functionality.
Perform other accounting and financial analysis duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with meaningful fixed asset experience.
Strong understanding of US GAAP and fixed asset accounting principles.
Experience with capital expenditures, depreciation, construction-in-progress, asset disposals, and fixed asset reconciliations.
Working knowledge of lease accounting and ASC 842.
Experience working with a large volume of fixed assets and/or multi-location environments preferred.
Strong Excel skills, including experience working with large data sets and financial schedules.
Experience with NetSuite or another ERP system strongly preferred.
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet recurring month-end deadlines.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to partner effectively across departments.
