Job Description - Senior Accountant | Hybrid | Los Angeles
About the Company
A private, fast-growing cannabis company based in Los Angeles
About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant with strong full-cycle accounting experience, sound judgment, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. This role will work closely with the Controller and leadership team to support day-to-day accounting operations, improve processes, and gradually take on additional ownership as work transitions in-house.
Work Arrangement
The selected candidate is expected to work on-site during the initial onboarding and probationary period. The first 30 days will be fully on-site, and any hybrid flexibility thereafter will depend on performance, business needs, and demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Support and gradually take ownership of full-cycle accounting activities, including month-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, AP/AR, fixed assets, and inventory-related accounting.
Assist with accounting matters related to GAAP, including areas such as revenue recognition and lease accounting, as needed.
Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules; identify discrepancies and propose corrections as needed.
Support the transition of selected accounting tasks from third-party providers to the internal team, and coordinate with external partners as needed.
Collaborate with the Controller and other team members to refine accounting processes.
Raise questions proactively, communicate clearly, and flag inconsistencies or issues when they arise.
Review calculations and supporting schedules carefully, and update them as business needs or direction changes.
Identify issues proactively, help resolve problems in a timely manner, and take ownership of assigned work.
Qualifications
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with experience supporting full-cycle accounting processes end-to-end
Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and GAAP; CPA or progress toward CPA is a plus, but not required
Advanced Excel skills; experience with QuickBooks and inventory-related accounting preferred.
Able to work independently, show initiative, and exercise sound judgment
Strong communication skills with the ability to ask thoughtful questions, explain issues clearly, and help solve problems
About the Hiring Process
This is a full-time position with a 90-day probationary period. During this time, performance and overall fit will be evaluated through regular check-ins and reviews.
