Job Description - Senior Accountant (Tax or Audit)
Role and Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, Senior Accountants perform a variety of professional tax, auditing, and attest work consistent with established policies and procedures, as assigned. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function, listed below, satisfactorily, as they are representative of the knowledge, skill, and abilities required. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.
Build on knowledge acquired in college and previous experience to gain a functional level of technical and operational knowledge to proficiently perform assigned tasks
Prepare and self-review workpapers in conformity with standards including scope/objective/procedure/conclusion, adequate supporting documentation, and tickmark workpaper cross references
Prepare assigned tax returns including individual, corporate, partnership, non-profit, and estate
Perform tax planning duties by compiling information for tax planning engagement, adjusting current year data and producing reports
Perform estate settlement duties related to preparing court documents, structuring decedent's final expenses, liquidating estates and distribution to heirs, and preparing federal and state estate returns
Ensure compliance with tax regulations and guidelines, minimizing tax liabilities
Communicate with clients on-site, by phone, or e-mail to obtain accurate information and relevant supporting documentation to support workpaper conclusions
Draft, foot, and proof financial statements and other engagement documents
Perform analytical and detailed work with numerical data efficiently and accurately
Prepare and maintain financial data and records for assigned clients
Utilize and have a high level of understanding of firm software, various tax programs, tax and research software, and internal workflow/procedures
Exercise and model strict confidentiality and information security practices
Follow firm accounts receivable policy and cease working on clients with a balance of 90+ days
Accurately report and release billable and non-billable time consistently and understand its importance
Meet productivity standards
Provide assistance, including research, to senior department staff and Members as needed
Recognize, anticipate, and resolve tax issues; make recommendations
Respond to inquiries from tax authorities
Prepare documentation for audit defense
Support special projects and initiatives within the Tax/Audit, Financial Services, and CAS departments
Begin to work towards a specialty/focus area either in a service area or industry segment
Develop team members and participate in business development activities
Adhere to agreed-upon work schedule
Preferred Skills:
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
Ability to use critical thinking to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients and other employees of CNC
Working knowledge of basic office technology, particularly Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel) and the ability to learn new accounting applications and CRM software
Ability to apply basic mathematical skills
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
Ability to analyze and interpret quantitative data to draw conclusions and make recommendations
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field with appropriate GPA or equivalent work experience
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Generally Accepted Auditing Standards, OR Statements on Standards for Accounting and Review Service, OR Internal Revenue Code and application of federal and state regulations
Familiar with IRS Circular 230 Regulations Governing Practice Before the IRS and the AICPA Professional Code of Conduct
2-3 years of experience working in public accounting
CPA certification or actively, currently pursuing CPA certification
Working Conditions:
Typical office environment with standard office hours. Occasional overtime may be required during peak periods (e.g., fiscal year-end, tax season).
Pay Range: $30 - $35 / hr
