Job Description - Senior Analytical Scientist



Full-time


Description

The Senior Analytical Scientist in the Analytical Team is accountable for driving results in a fast pace environment by performing routine and non-routine analytical testing to support development of particulate based drug delivery systems including the following 

  1. Microspheres for sustained release
  2. Nanoparticles for targeted drug delivery
  3. Lipid nanoparticles for nucleic acid delivery

Responsibilities include developing and executing analytical assay to characterize particle size, API content, encapsulation efficiency, Nucleic Acid quantitation and integrity, invitro release, and dissolution.

Key analytical methodologies applied include HPLC, Capillary Electrophoresis, Gel Electrophoresis, ELISA, fluorescent microplate-based assays (RiboGreen, PicoGreen, etc.) and dissolution/in vitro release.

this role requires the ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple departments (Operations, Analytical services, Process Development) and client facing interactions. The Senior Analytical Scientist will be responsible for supporting multiple projects in parallel to facilitate project teams' ability to successfully meet project objectives in a timely and organized fashion.


Requirements

  • Perform analytical characterization of particulate based drug delivery systems using the following techniques:
  • Assays (API quantitation, lipid quantitation, etc)
  • Particle size
  • Dissolution and/or In Vitro Release
  • Residual Moisture
  • Osmolality
  • Syringeability/injectability
  • Summarize generated data
  • Analyze data for technical correctness and accuracy.
  • Maintain detailed laboratory notebook.
  • Write technical documents such as SOP's, analytical methods, drug release and stability protocols and technical reports.
  • Assist in training junior/newly hired staff and interns to operate analytical instruments (such as pH meter, balance and weighing technique, etc.)
  • Maintain working knowledge of instrumentation, equipment, and scientific methodologies necessary to perform assigned tasks.
  • Assists in routine equipment and lab cleaning and restocking of consumable products and reagents.
  • Assist analytical services tram with development of analytical methods for drug substance and drug product characterization (e.g., related compounds, assay, dissolution, residual solvents, etc.)
  • Assist in method validation and tech transfer activities.
  • Assist analytical team with technical troubleshooting of analytical problems related to instrumentation general chemistry, and analytical methodologies.
  • Adhere to Phosphorex's Environmental Health and Safety practices and SOP's. Maintain a safe, clean and organized work environment free of safety hazards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Education Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related discipline with 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in a pharmaceutical analytical laboratory
  • Ability to execute analytical assays and summarize results.
  • Excellent organization skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with scientists and engineers working in other disciplines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with an interdisciplinary team in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to multiple projects in parallel.
  • Flexibility to work outside f standard office hours (9.00am - 5.30pm) occasionally to meet project needs.
  • Well versed with Microsoft Office Applications.

Preferred Skills

  • Prior experience executing fluorescent microplate-based assays (RiboGreen, PicoGreen, etc.) chromatography, spectroscopy, and wet chemistry methods.
  • Prior experience with instruments such as HPLC, UPLC, UV/VIS, fluorescence or multimode microplate reader, dissolution apparatus and particle size analyzer.
  • Prior experience in method development for early-stage drug development 
  • Prior method transfer experience.
