Job Overview
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under general supervision of the Pavement Supervisor, operate light and heavy-duty equipment as well as use power and hand tools to repair concrete and asphalt surfaces such as runways, taxiways, roadways, and parking lots, mixes materials and coordinates preparation of excavated areas. Builds concrete structures; digs trenches and hauls dirt. Operate snow and ice removal equipment during winter weather events. Train Pavement Workers on the safe operation and use of equipment and tools. Document and report status of inventory and material stock as well as equipment status. Work may be assigned and monitored by a lead person.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Continued):
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
· Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent
· Two (2) years’ experience in concrete or asphalt repair and finish; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted.
· Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid Class A commercial driver’s license in a predetermined time frame by the supervisor.
· Possession of, or ability to obtain a flagger certification by ATSSA or equivalent in a predetermined time frame by the supervisor.
· Possession of, or ability to obtain a Traffic Control Technician certification by ATSSA or equivalent in a predetermined time frame by the supervisor.
· Must be able to work rotating shift assignment. Must pass a medical physical examination.
· Must have a good private driving record: (a) no more than two (2) convictions of moving violations in the last 36 months and (b) no DWI convictions in the last 60 months.
· This is a DOT-designated and Airport-designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass drug and alcohol tests prior to employment and to submit to drug and alcohol screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions in working with hot asphalt mix and operating road machinery and equipment.
· Knowledge of the techniques and practices in finishing concrete and asphalt surfaces.
· Knowledge of proper lifting techniques.
· Ability to operate a variety of powered and mobile equipment to maintain paved areas.
· Ability to operate manual and powered tools.
· Ability to clean, check fluid levels, add fluid as required and to lubricate assigned vehicles and equipment.
· Ability to understand and follow oral instructions and to communicate clearly over two-way radio, including ground control for AOA operations.
· Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction and multiplication and division.
· Ability to drive in Aircraft Movement Area and/or obtain certification to drive in the Aircraft Movement Area.
DESIRABLE:
· Position of a Class B Commercial Driver’s License
· Training in a related field.
PAVEMENT MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN 1844
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
· This is a designated Essential Employee position as defined in DFW Airport’s Categories and Classifications Administrative Policy and Procedure. An essential employee is one whose attendance is required to maintain airport operations during an emergency or inclement weather situation.
EFFORT:
· Works in a maintenance environment.
· Works outdoors for extended periods in inclement weather and in conditions containing hot asphalt, dust, fumes, and noise.
· Operates powered and mobile pavement maintenance equipment.
· Operates equipment with hand and foot-operated controls using eye/hand/foot coordination.
· Performs manual labor frequently exerting forces equivalent to lifting up to 50 pounds and occasionally exerting forces equivalent to lifting up to 100 pounds.
· Stands or walks for prolonged periods of time.
· Works in awkward positions such as kneeling, stooping or squatting.
· Uses near-visual acuity in reading written documents.
· Uses far-visual acuity in driving vehicle/equipment.
· Uses hand/arm manipulation in tool and equipment operation.
· Exchanges information by telephone, e-mail, all radios, including AOA Ground Control (all frequencies), and in person.
· Drives to locations on Airport property.
