JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Avionics Design Engineer will take ownership of several spacecraft electrical subsystems. They will work alongside lead engineers, program managers, and the Chief Engineer to design, assemble, and test hardware. The ideal candidate will have at least 4-5 years of experience designing electrical hardware for spacecraft or other mobile electronic platforms with a BS, MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering. They should be accustomed to working in a fast-paced environment, and quickly adapting to new challenges.

Key Responsibilities
Be a Responsible Engineer (RE) accountable for several electrical subsystems which may include power management hardware, battery packs, sensors, control modules and communication hubs
Design, test, and build spacecraft bus system power management modules including PCBA schematic capture, simulation, layout, and contract manufacturing
Design test procedures for screening hardware against program level requirements
Manage design documentation between different configurations, builds, and programs
Assemble and test flight hardware alongside our AIT team
Work with VP of Engineering and Chief Engineer to design and implement Avionics processes and best practices
Perform PCB schematic capture and layout (Altium experience preferred)
Perform detailed technical review of electronics design and PCB layouts
Assist in developing test plans for flight qualification of avionics (TVAC, vibe, thermal, radiation, EMC/EMI, etc.)
Preferred Skills and Experience:

Experience and knowledge in power management design hardware in both analog and digital architectures
Demonstrated skills in debug and root cause analysis of hardware in complex systems
Experience in transitioning a product from an R&D design to a manufacturable and repeatable product is desired
Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout in Altium Designer
Experienced in working with different serial communications protocols and physical layers including I2C, UART, CAN, and RS-422/485
Experience with Ethernet and Automotive Ethernet communications protocols is desired
Experience designing PCBs/PCBAs to IPC 6011 standards
Understanding of best wire harness design and build standards (such as IPC J-STD-001ES) is desired
Experience using lab equipment: oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, logic analyzers, soldering
Experience designing electronics for the space environment (LEO, GEO and deep space) including radiation, thermal, and vibe
Experience defining spacecraft avionics architectures and developing associated budgets
Experience performing radiation test campaigns
Experience with circuit simulation software such as LTSpice
Experience designing fault-tolerant systems
Basic Qualifications

BS in electrical engineering or similar technical discipline
5+ years of experience in electronics design
2+ years of experience leading a team of engineers
Compensation:

Annual Base Salary Range: $ 125,000.00 - $ 175,000.00/per year
Base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. Your actual base salary will be determined on job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

This is a full-time position in San Jose, California. This position requires access to export-controlled commodities, technical data, technology, software, and services. U.S. citizenship, U.S. legal permanent resident status, or protected person status under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3) is required.
