Job Description - Senior Backend Engineer (Java) - Remote

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer (Java) to join our core tech product team. You will collaborate closely with our Lead Full-Stack Engineer, Chief Product Officer (CPO), and Product Designer to develop customer-focused insurance APIs, along with a dashboard and management tool for our insurance products. This is a unique opportunity to join us at an early stage and directly shape the direction of our product.
  • Develop a modern Java-based backend for our web application
  • Build a digital twin of our insurance products and design Web-/REST-APIs for customer interaction
  • Use Java and the Spring Framework to develop the core insurance system
  • Analyze, design, develop, review, test, and deploy high-quality software across different environments (e.g., staging and production)
  • Work closely with the Lead Full-Stack Engineer, CPO, and Product Designer to create a seamless and user-centric product
  • Leverage AWS and AI tools for agile development
  • Maintain high development standards, including code quality, CI/CD, automated testing, and quality assurance
  • Continuously improve the codebase by following the principle: “Leave the code better than you found it.”
  • Expert in Java and the Spring Framework
  • Strong experience with SQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and AWS
  • In-depth knowledge of API design and development
  • Proven experience in automated testing
  • Hands-on experience in operating and monitoring web applications
  • Comfortable working with external partners/clients
  • Experience in agile development environments
  • Fluent in English – German is a plus
