Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Controls Engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced automation solutions across multiple industries, including semiconductors, life sciences, food & beverage, oil & gas, mining, and water/wastewater.
In this role, you will serve as a technical lead, working directly with customers and guiding engineering teams through requirements gathering, system design, programming, testing, commissioning, and qualification. This position is ideal for a senior‑level engineer with deep PLC/DCS/HMI/SCADA expertise and strong leadership capabilities.

Responsibilities:
Lead the design, configuration, programming, and commissioning of automation systems using PLC, DCS, HMI, and SCADA platforms.
Develop control system architectures, functional specifications, and detailed design documentation.
Program controllers using Ladder Logic, Sequential Function Chart (SFC), Structured Text, and related languages.
Develop HMI/SCADA applications using VBA, .NET, SQL, and modern visualization tools.
Design and implement industrial networking solutions (fiber, wired, wireless) using Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, and related protocols.
Oversee system integration, testing, FAT/SAT, startup, and troubleshooting activities.
Provide technical leadership on graphics standards, alarming, scale‑up, and system optimization.
Mentor junior engineers and technicians, providing guidance on best practices and design standards.
Support job estimating, project planning, scheduling, and execution for projects up to $1M.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and maintain strong customer relationships.
Ensure compliance with NEC, industry standards, and internal engineering processes.
Qualifications/Must Haves:
Experience estimating jobs and supporting project execution.
Must be local to Albuquerque or have strong ties to the area.
10+ years of hands‑on Controls Engineering experience.
Strong troubleshooting skills for field devices and automation equipment.
Experience with DCS platforms (e.g., Emerson DeltaV) is a strong plus.
Proficiency in Ladder, SFC, Structured Text, and related control languages.
Experience with VBA, .NET, SQL, and data visualization tools (Power BI, Grafana)
Strong proficiency with PLC platforms: Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Modicon.
Hands‑on experience with HMI/SCADA platforms such as: ICONICS Genesis64, Wonderware ArchestrA System Platform, GE CIMPLICITY / GE iFIX, Rockwell FactoryTalk View, Schneider / Siemens HMI.
Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus)
Experience designing electrical schematics, control panels, and power distribution under 480VAC.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Computer Science.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with AutoCAD.
CAP, CCST, or PE certification.
Experience mentoring or leading engineering teams.
Experience with large‑scale industrial networking.
Background in mission‑critical or regulated environments.
