This position is responsible for designing, developing, and testing model based design controls for power electronic based circuit protection technology and products. The individual will work together with a diverse cross-functional team of engineers to drive the development of the model based control systems and subsystems for circuit protection products to be used in both low voltage and medium voltage AC & DC applications. Proficiency in Matlab/Simulink, HiL (hardware in the loop) systems together with knowledge of embedded firmware implementation for real time systems is required in order for the individual to accelerate the development of advanced control schemes used in our protection oriented components and technology platforms. Develop strong technical knowledge in power electronic based circuit breaker design, testing and applications. Efficiently design and develop model based (Matlab/Simulink) control schemes applied to power electronic based circuit breakers. Leverage auto-code generation along with “C/C++ interface functions to integrate model based designs into existing circuit breaker embedded platforms Leverage model based control design to simulate and verify (both HiL and embedded product based) proper control functionality utilizing a mix of both embedded and electrical (oscilloscope etc.) test equipment Thoroughly document requirements, design details and test results Work together with team members and lab personnel to verify overall system operation in compliance with applicable standards Define project schedule and achieve on time performance of task in alignment with overall team goals. Define and execute test plans to ensure overall control design meets quality standards and alignment with relevant agency standards Generate value added intellectual property. Master's degree in electrical/computer engineering or equivalent with a focus on controls (knowledge of power electronic and power systems or motor controls) from an accredited institution Experience with Matlab/Simulink Experience C/C++ for embedded systems Minimum 2 years of related engineering experience in designing, developing and testing power system analysis or motor controls. Strong understanding of electrical power systems and power electronics General knowledge of industrial circuit breaker design, requirements, and applications Proficiency/working knowledge of hardware in the loop (HiL) systems Proficiency working in real time embedded operating systems Experience in utilizing test equipment such as oscilloscopes Demonstrated knowledge of engineering processes Experience with DFSS tools Self-motivated and goal-oriented individual Good communication and presentation skills Collaborative orientation, the ability to succeed in a highly team oriented, global, and diverse environment Consistently acts in an ethical, open, honest, trustworthy and truthful manner Desire for innovation, new product development Occasional domestic and international travel required as needed Demonstrate problem solving capability Ability to learn new skills, knowledge, industry, or products Strong written communication and verbal communication skills
