Department/Area: Technical Department – Controls - Midland, TX
Minimum Years of Experience: 3–5 years in industrial electrical, instrumentation, or controls technician roles
Education Required: Trade School Graduate or equivalent technical training
Position Summary
The Senior Tech – Controls is a senior‑level field technician responsible for installing, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning control and automation systems. This role works closely with Superintendents, Programmers, and Project Managers to execute scopes safely and with high quality, while mentoring Technicians and Apprentices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Install and terminate control wiring, instruments, and panels in accordance with drawings and specifications.
Perform loop checks, device calibrations, and functional testing of control systems.
Troubleshoot complex electrical, instrumentation, and controls issues and implement corrective actions.
Provide technical support to Technicians and Apprentices, demonstrating proper installation and testing methods.
Assist with commissioning and start‑up activities, including execution of test procedures and punch‑list resolution.
Complete required documentation such as test forms, redlines, and daily reports accurately and on time.
Verify materials, tools, and test equipment are available, calibrated, and in good working order.
Promote and enforce all safety policies and procedures in the field, leading by example.
Collaborate with project leadership to identify constructability issues and contribute to field solutions.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
3–5 years of experience as a controls, instrumentation, or electrical technician in industrial environments.
Trade school graduate or equivalent technical education.
Automation Certified or equivalent credential required or obtained within company‑defined timeframe.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting P&IDs, loop drawings, termination diagrams, and control panel layouts.
Demonstrated ability to perform device calibration, loop checks, and functional testing with minimal supervision.
Strong troubleshooting skills and familiarity with common test equipment (multimeters, loop calibrators, etc.).
Commitment to safety, quality, and mentoring less‑experienced team members.
Ability to travel and work at various job sites, including overtime and shift work when required.
