Job Description - Senior Coordinator, Business and Legal Affairs

We are UMG, the Universal Music Group. We are the world’s leading music company. In everything we do, we are committed to artistry, innovation and entrepreneurship. We own and operate a broad array of businesses engaged in recorded music, music publishing, merchandising, and audiovisual content in more than 60 countries. We identify and develop recording artists and songwriters, and we produce, distribute and promote the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful music to delight and entertain fans around the world.

How We LEAD

Merchandise and commerce are a part of the fabric of music culture. For artists, they are an extension of creative identity and brand. For fans, they offer a meaningful way to connect more deeply with the artist and the culture they represent. Our products are being sold through artists’ official e-commerce shops, through online marketplaces and in thousands of retail and e-tail locations around the world. We also service our artists on the road, providing merchandise and VIP experiences at live shows. We find new ways to push innovation through both products and partnerships.

The Senior Coordinator, Business & Legal Affairs supports the execution of artist-driven merchandise and commerce initiatives by assisting with deal management, contract administration, and cross-functional coordination. Reporting to existing attorney(s) in Business & Legal Affairs, this role works closely with Artist Relations, Commercial, Creative, Finance, and Operations teams to help move opportunities efficiently from approved concept through signed agreement and execution.

This role is ideal for a highly organized, commercially minded professional who understands deal mechanics, thrives in fast-paced environments, likes to wear multiple hats, and is looking to grow a long-term career in Business & Legal Affairs within music and consumer products.

How You’ll CREATE

  • Support deal execution: Assist in managing the business and legal affairs aspects of merchandise and commerce deals, including tracking key terms, approvals, and execution milestones.

  • Contract coordination and administration: Help prepare, review, and manage agreements using approved templates; coordinate internal reviews, track redlines, communicate autonomously with external stakeholders and vendors, and manage signature processes.

  • Partner cross-functionally: Work closely with Artist Relations, Commercial, Creative, Finance, and Operations teams to gather deal inputs, confirm assumptions, and ensure alignment on deal terms and timelines. Liaise with third party manufacturers, retailers, commercial vendors and anti-counterfeiting vendors, as well as UMG partners.

  • Maintain deal trackers and records: Own internal trackers, databases, and documentation to ensure accurate, up-to-date visibility into deal status, obligations, and deliverables.

  • Support rights and product workflows: Assist with rights confirmations, product scope summaries, and documentation required for manufacturing, distribution, and launch.

  • Ensure clean handoffs to execution teams: Help communicate signed deal terms, obligations, and timelines to internal partners to support smooth implementation and ongoing compliance.

  • Flag risks and inconsistencies: Identify potential issues, missing information, or inconsistencies in deal materials and escalate appropriately to senior Business & Legal Affairs leadership.

  • Contribute to process improvement: Help maintain and refine templates, checklists, trackers, and workflows to increase efficiency, clarity, and scalability.

  • Handle sensitive information with discretion: Maintain confidentiality around artist relationships, deal terms, and strategic initiatives.

Bring Your VIBE

  • 3–6+ years of relevant experience in business affairs, contract administration, deal operations, partnerships, or as a legal assistant or paralegal at an intellectual property or entertainment law firm, ideally with exposure to music, talent, licensing, or consumer products matters.

  • Working knowledge of commercial agreements and deal workflows, even if not responsible for final negotiation.

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with exceptional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to manage multiple deals, stakeholders, and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Clear, professional communicator who collaborates effectively across creative, commercial, and operational teams.

  • Comfort working with templates, trackers, and approval processes; strong Monday.com and document-management skills a plus.

  • Organizes own work, coordinating projects, setting priorities, meeting deadlines, and following up on assignments with a minimum of direction.

  • Experience with corporate compliance and product compliance is a plus, particularly in environments involving consumer goods, licensing, manufacturing, or distribution.

  • Sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive information and artist-related matters.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; legal studies, business, or paralegal background a plus (JD not required).
