Senior Correspondent

What we can offer you

The Senior Correspondent is responsible for producing investigative journalism across a wide array of topics including politics and U.S. news, with a special focus on corruption and the abuse of power.  He or she should have at least 5 years journalistic experience, as well an ability to write and report at a professional level—producing clean copy and regular scoops. Podcast and/or newsletter experience is a plus.  

Responsibilities:

• Deliver timely stories and well-crafted narratives.

• Conceive compelling story and project ideas to discuss with The Beast’s top editors in New York City.

• Work closely with our politics and U.S. news desks.

• Use sources, documents, computer-assisted reporting, and other journalistic tools to develop, report, and write his or her own stories on these topics.

• Fact-check political, government, and corporate leaders on these issues of the day.

• Help edit, guide, mentor, and collaborate with other members of The Daily Beast staff.

• Adhere to the ethical code, policies and procedures of The Daily Beast.

• Ability to discuss stories, debate key issues on TV, radio, and online outlets.

• Contribute ideas for podcasts, newsletters, online graphics, polls, and other means of enhancing audience engagement.

What you bring to us

• Strong research, writing, and reporting skills.

• Proven skill as a narrative writer and story-teller.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, juggling multiple projects and deadlines.

• Willingness to collaborate with other reporters, editors, and media partners.

• Commitment and ability to continue to develop sources.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

• Fluency in social media, story promotion skills.

• A self-starter who can conceive and execute stories with impact.

• Ability to take initiative, receive constructive feedback, and work with minimal supervision.

• At least five years of reporting experience.

• Based in New York City or Washington DC is preferred, but not required.
