JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

The Senior Custodian provides custodial services at assigned sites, ensuring an attractive, sanitary and safe environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors; performing a variety of special cleaning operations; overseeing the preparation of facilities for classroom activities and campus events.  This position performs skilled and semi-skilled cleaning, housekeeping and/or general maintenance duties in assigned areas. Additionally, exercise care and caution in the use of supplies and equipment while performing custodial tasks. This position is classified as an Essential Services Employee. Essential Services Employees maintain business operations for UT Health Science Center, support the physical operations and safety of the campus. This role involves performing various operations and services essential to maintaining critical infrastructure and ensuring continuous operations.

1. Cleans, sanitizes, and deodorizes restrooms using established practices and procedures.
2. Sweeps and vacuums carpeting and floors using manual and power equipment.
3. Mops, scrubs, spot cleans, and maintains carpeting, tiles, and floors. Washes and buffs floors with a floor polisher.
4. Empties wastebaskets and garbage cans, place garbage in the outside storage bin.
5. Cleans interior windows using common household equipment and cleaning products.
6. Cleans multilevel stairwells, elevators, docks and tunnel areas, entrances and exits including glass, doors and hardware, keeps outside area near exit and entrance clear of snow, cans, paper, etc.
7. Cleans, dusts, and wipes offices, furniture, and fixtures.
8. Cleans kitchen sinks and counters, lockers and benches, shower room walls, fixtures, and floors, drinking fountains, partitions and doors, and roll-up walk-off mats.
9. Uses and maintains assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high-pressure washers, high-speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees.
10. Reports damages and acts of vandalism.
11. Performs and/or reports minor maintenance repairs.
12. Performs other duties as assigned. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

EDUCATION:

 High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: 

Six (6) months of custodial or housekeeping experience. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of aspects of custodial cleaning and/or general maintenance duties and services.
• Knowledge of equipment utilized by custodial staff, e.g., vacuum cleaner and various mopping, sweeping, stripping machines, waxer/buffer, water pick-ups, dusting tools, etc.
• Skill in reading Standard English text to follow through on written orders, read labels on cleaning products, or instructions on equipment, and carry out assignments in a safe manner. 
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and a positive and respectful attitude with peers, subordinates, supervisors, administrators, customers, and visitors. 
• Ability to stand, crawl, walk and stoop; push, pull, lift or lower objects weighing up to 50 lbs. 
• Ability to work indoors in fluctuating temperatures. 
• Ability to work under adverse situations and conditions, e.g., dirty, noisy, etc.
• Ability to maintain the highest quality of custodial services at a level consistent with University and department standards.

WORK SCHEDULE: 

Monday – Friday, shift hours may vary. This position may occasionally work weekends.
