Senior Data Engineer

Emerald Zebra is working closely with a well-established Tech Company. Our client provides comprehensive information system and application integration solutions in the Maritime sector, and they are seeking to hire an experienced Data Engineer.

Location: Limassol, Cyprus

Salary: 50K - 65K EUR Gross/ Year

In this role you will manage a team of Data and BI Developers and oversee the development and maintenance of a large-scale data platform. You will be responsible for advancing the Microsoft Azure BI stack, including Power BI and associated data pipeline tools, and delivering scalable, professional cloud-based data solutions aligned with business intelligence needs.

The successful candidate will lead the integration of diverse datasets, design standardized enterprise data schemas in collaboration with the BI Architect, and deliver client-focused, professional data solutions for ongoing projects and new initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of robust data pipelines and ETL processes to enable seamless data integration and transformation.
• Define and standardize Power BI data models for consistent reporting across the organization.
• Guide and support Power BI Developers in delivering dashboards and reports that drive actionable insights.
• Architect and implement scalable, high-performing data solutions using Azure technologies.
• Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver effective solutions.
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and security across all data systems and platforms.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve data pipeline issues to maintain business continuity.
• Keep current with the latest industry developments and apply best practices in data engineering, Power BI, and Azure services.
• Demonstrate strong analytical skills to manage and model unstructured and diverse data sources.
• Provide support, mentorship, and task delegation within the BI team while maintaining a strong customer-focused approach.

Background and experience:

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Proven experience as a Data Engineer or similar role, with a strong focus on Azure cloud architecture.
• Advanced SQL skills and experience in data modelling and relational database design.
• In-depth expertise in Power BI, including report/dashboard creation, Power Query, and DAX.
• Hands-on experience with key Azure services such as Data Factory, Databricks, Azure SQL Database, and Synapse Analytics.
• Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, R, or Scala.
• Strong communication skills, capable of translating complex technical data for non-technical stakeholders.
• Excellent problem-solving capabilities with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Solid experience in leading cross-functional BI teams in fast-paced environments.
• Strong analytical mindset aligned with enterprise data modelling strategies.

Preferred Skills (Strong Plus):

• Knowledge of data governance and security best practices.
• Relevant certifications in Azure or Power BI.
• Familiarity with maritime ship management industry processes.
