Senior Data Engineer

The Florida Digital Service

The Florida Digital Service (FL[DS]) was established to propose innovative solutions that securely modernize state government, including technology and information services, to achieve value through digital transformation and interoperability, and to fully support the state’s cloud-first policy. It is also the lead entity responsible for enterprise cybersecurity.

Position Overview and Responsibilities:

The incumbent in this position will assist with the many facets of the Office of Data Management within FL[DS]. Responsibilities include assisting with the implementation and support of the State Enterprise Data Catalog, as well as data interoperability efforts by contributing to APIs that facilitate data sharing.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Implement and support the State Enterprise Data Catalog.

Define and implement Extract Transform Load (ETL) jobs on a wide variety of disparate data sources and apply algorithms that reveal value to analysts and business owners.

Build and maintain dashboards leveraging Business Intelligence tools including but not limited to Power BI, Tableau, and Alteryx.

Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and build out new API integrations.

Write unit/integration tests and create documentation for work products.

Work with other data engineers and provide technical expertise in scalable systems design.

Assist team members by building tools to aid analytics and data science efforts.

Participate in requirements gathering meetings and review designs with the enterprise.

Other duties as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Expert SQL skills.

Experience with developing ETL processes.

Experience developing and using APIs

Exposure with one or more Enterprise Data Catalog software platforms.

Experience developing reports & dashboards using business intelligence software.

Experience building data pipelines.

Hands-on experience with database design.

Experience developing programs and applications.

Experience with cloud services.

Experience with software development methodologies and Git or other source code control systems.

Experience writing high quality technical documentation.

Familiarity with a variety of datasets, structured, semi-structured and unstructured, etc.

Preferred Skills:

Experience with Python.

Experience with Snowflake & Snowpipe.

Experience with Alteryx or other data preparation software tools.

BA/BS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems, or another quantitative field.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree or 6 years’ experience with technology projects.

Prior experience in software development or data management projects.
