The

Senior Director, Center for Transplantation

directs all Organ Transplant Programs at UC San Diego Health, and is responsible for the administrative oversight of the Center including clinical workflow, regulatory oversight, patient experience, human resources, financial resources, capital planning, and quality assurance. The Senior Director serves as primary administrative contact for the United Network for Organ Sharing, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and The Joint Commission.
The Senior Director is responsible for all transplant services across the health system and determines allocation of subordinate and management responsibilities. In collaboration with physician leadership, the Senior Director communicates vision, determines direction, and develops strategic plans for the various transplant programs. The Senior Director is recognized as an influential and visionary leader in the organization. The senior director develops and manages resource budgets including long range and capital plans for space, equipment and information technology while ensuring programs and facilities are maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements. In collaboration with physician leadership, the Senior Director develops business strategies to increase market share and represents the Center to internal and external stakeholders. Manages all Human Resources requirements including hiring and separations, staff competencies, annual evaluations and disciplinary action (in conjunction with HR and Labor Relations). Promotes UC San Diego Health goals and core values.
Key Responsibilities:
Directs operational processes focused on high quality transplant services and the coordination of care across multiple, complex departments/units.

Formulates and administers financial plans and budgets. Reviews and approves fiscal planning proposals for new programs, annual budgets and long-term goals.

Leads regulatory compliance and reporting. Ensures compliance with internal policies as well as state and federal regulations and requirements. Oversees process for accreditation and other surveys, data submission and verification activities.

Collaborates with Finance to ensure compliance with the CMS cost report for pre-transplant services.

Accountable for continuous quality improvement program for transplant consistent with federal and state guidelines, regulatory requirements, and quality improvement plan.

Leads coordination across medical center departments and/or clinics.

Formulates transplant marketing opportunities in collaboration with the marketing department.

Collaborates with Contracting to ensure commercial contracts are adequate and standards for quality are met.

Directs, along with subordinate managers, all human resources issues. Responsible for recruitment, performance management, professional development, evaluation and corrective action. Collaborates with Labor Relations on bargaining unit issues and ensures compliance with labor contracts.

Acts as a role model for strong management practices to create a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and timely achievement of objectives and goals.

Leads staff education programs. Works with managers and physicians to evaluate core competencies in clinical care.

Participates in system-wide committees and strategic planning with senior leaders across services to develop plans to improve health care delivery and the coordination or integration of clinical services.

Participates in national committees focusing on advancing the field of transplantation (UNOS and other professional associations). MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor's Degree in nursing or other healthcare profession, and a minimum of eight years of relevant experience; or a combination of comparable clinical education, training and experience.
Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of California, if applicable.
Minimum of eight years of experience and progressive expertise in transplant center management.
Expertise in CMS and UNOS regulations and requirements.
Demonstrated clinical management skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Advanced degree in nursing, business, health administration or related field highly preferred.
Ten or more years of progressive leadership experience in transplant management.
