Job Description - Senior Director, Engineering - AI Renovation and Homeowner
Why Hover wants you
As Senior Director of Engineering, you will lead two mission-critical areas at Hover:
The Renovation Product Area – Focused on building a new, generative AI-powered user experience that helps homeowners and contractors visualize renovation options with realistic, interactive outputs.
The Systems Area – A horizontal team responsible for core infrastructure, security engineering, developer productivity, and payment/money systems that power Hover’s business operations at scale.
Your charter goes beyond individual products. You will play a key role in shaping Hover’s end-to-end renovation platform — connecting the dots between our core products:
Scanning: Capture accurate property data via smartphone
Design: Generate realistic renovation designs with AI
Estimation: Help contractors close deals with pricing and proposals
Marketplace: Connecting Homeowners with Pros
This role is both a technical and strategic leadership opportunity, ideal for someone who can see the big picture, drive product/platform convergence, and scale high-performing teams.
You will contribute by
Partnering with senior product and design leaders to shape the vision, roadmap, and technical approach to generative, interactive renovation tooling.
Collaborating with R&D engineering leaders to harness next-generation technologies and translate them into breakthrough product experiences.
Leading engineering for Hover’s next-generation renovation platform, connecting our scan, design, and sales tools into a seamless customer workflow.
Partnering with product and design to define a cohesive user experience across tools and customer types — from homeowner DIY to pro contractor workflows.
Owning and evolving Hover’s horizontal systems platform, including cloud infrastructure, developer tooling, security engineering, and payment system.
Building and mentoring high-performing engineering teams, developing both managers and ICs while fostering a culture of excellence, inclusion, and growth.
Bringing clarity and operational leadership across engineering, product, and design — especially in areas that lack structure or momentum.
Contributing to company-wide strategic planning and technical direction as a key member of the R&D leadership team.
Your background includes
10+ years of experience in software engineering, with 4+ years managing multi-team organizations that include engineering managers and cross-functional leads.
Experience delivering 0–1 products, especially those involving AI/ML, computer vision, or interactive visualization.
Success in launching and scaling end-to-end product platforms, ideally with a combination of consumer-grade UX and professional workflow tools.
Familiarity with infrastructure/platform engineering, including DevOps, security, and money movement systems.
Strong track record of working across functions to raise team performance, resolve ambiguity, and accelerate execution.
A product minded engineering leader — you care about customer value, user experience, and long-term platform leverage.
Experience mentoring and scaling high-performing engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, and organizational design.
Please note: While this role is scoped at the Senior Director level, we are open to considering candidates at the Director or VP level based on experience and fit.
