Satsuma Pharmaceuticals is a biopharmaceutical company preparing to launch AtzumiTM (dihydroergotamine (DHE) nasal powder), a novel therapeutic product approved in the US for the acute treatment of migraine. AtzumiTM incorporates proprietary advanced powder and device technology (SMART – Simple MucoAdhesive Release Technology™) and is designed to be easy-to-use, easy-to-carry, and for quick self-administration.

Position Summary: 

The Senior Director, Finance will lead accounting and support financial planning and analysis (FP&A) for Satsuma Pharmaceuticals. This individual will partner closely with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to deliver financial insights that support corporate strategy, operational decision-making, and long-range planning. The Senior Director will oversee the annual budgeting process, quarterly forecasts, financial modeling, and management reporting while providing analytical support for business initiatives, resource allocation, and corporate objectives. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with strong analytical capabilities and experience in a growing biotechnology organization.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the commercial accounting function, gross-to-net, revenue recognition and reporting. 

• Manage the company's annual budgeting, long-range planning, and quarterly forecasting processes.

• Own monthly reporting to our parent company and ad hoc communication as needed. 

• Establish robust commercial finance capabilities, including order-to-cash systems, gross-to-net (GTN) accrual modeling, trade/inventory accounting, and commercial risk management controls.

• Establish, refine, and maintain strong internal controls and governance frameworks to enforce fiscal discipline and compliance across the organization.

• Streamline the month-end/quarter-end close processes to ensure timely, accurate backend reporting for both internal management and external stakeholders.

• Build a high-performing internal accounting team, successfully transitioning functions in-house to support organizational growth.

• Interpret and apply U.S. GAAP and other authoritative accounting standards to ensure technical compliance and rigorous financial reporting across all operations.

• Partner with commercial leadership to design and scale the financial infrastructure, accounting processes, and revenue recognition policies required for the U.S. commercial launch of Atzumi™.

• Develop financial models, scenario analyses, and business cases to support strategic decision-making.

• Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages, dashboards, and executive presentations.

• Analyze financial results, key performance indicators, and business trends, providing actionable recommendations to leadership.

• Improve financial planning processes, reporting tools, and forecasting methodologies to enhance business performance.

• Ensure alignment of accounting across financial planning, reporting, and operational results.

• Support corporate development activities, including financial modeling for business development opportunities, as needed.

Minimum Requirements Education/Experience: 

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field required.

• MBA, CPA, CFA, or other advanced financial credential preferred.

• 10+ years of progressive finance experience within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.

• Demonstrated expertise in financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial modeling.

• Experience supporting executive leadership with financial insights and business decision support.

• Prior experience in a commercial-stage or late-stage biotechnology company is preferred.

• Experience with ERP systems, financial planning tools, and advanced Excel modeling.

• Strong financial modeling, analytical, and strategic planning skills.

• Excellent business acumen with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights.

• Strong executive communication and presentation skills.

• Proven ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and build collaborative partnerships.

• Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

• Results-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving biotechnology environment.

Benefits and Pay:

The expected salary range for this position is $250,000 - $265,000 USD. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
