Job Description - Senior Director of Engineering (m/f/d)

Join us as Senior Director of Engineering - Shape the Future of Technology at Matrix42
Location: Preferably Romania or Finland
Reports to: VP of Engineering
Direct Reports: Multi-national teams in Romania, Finland, Germany and Poland
Employment Type: Full-Time
 
We are looking for an innovative and result-driven Senior Director of Engineering to lead the strategic and operational execution of our software engineering landscape and help us reach our vision of The European Choice in service management – building the undisputed European leader in the market and a strong alternative to the global players in our space. The primary focus of this role is to optimize our engineering functions, ensure high-quality delivery of our roadmap while driving a culture of innovation and excellence. Working closely with the VP of Engineering and the CTO, you will integrate our newly acquired engineering teams, drive cloud transformation and architect scalable products to drive our company’s long-term success.
With the recent Matrix42–Efecte merger, your expertise will be critical in building and leading unified high-performing R&D teams and modernizing and increasing the competitiveness of our current generation products/systems. You will also drive the migration of on-premise solutions to different cloud architectures, following our Cloud Your Way paradigm. You will refine DevOps pipelines and implement AI-driven methodologies to enhance efficiency. Your leadership will ensure technical innovation, operational excellence and high-performing engineering organization across multiple geographies.
 
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) 
The success of this role will be measured using the following metrics, which directly contribute to our company goals:
  • Roadmap delivery and innovation:
    • On-time delivery of product roadmap features and enhancements
    • Introduction of innovative solutions aligned with market needs
  • R&D productivity 
    • Efficient utilization of engineering resources, budget adherence and ROI on major engineering initiatives
    • Streamlined DevOps and CI/CD metrics (e.g., lead time for changes, deployment frequency)
    • Growth in active usage of our cloud-native / multi-tenant solutions
  • Quality
    • # of Escaped Defects, # of Defects, MTTR
    • # of Customer Escalations 
    • NPS (customer satisfaction)
 Your Key Responsibilities
  • Lead technology strategy: Define and execute a software development strategy focused on cloud resilience, security, and performance.
  • Accelerate cloud transformation: Drive transition from on-premise infrastructures to multi-tenant SaaS ecosystems, ensuring architectural scalability and integrity.
  • Optimize product & engineering execution: Implement engineering practices to ensure timely roadmap delivery, budget adherence, and top-tier software quality.
  • Refine development processes: Institutionalize AI-driven development methodologies, integrate agile frameworks, and optimize DevOps best practices for seamless CI/CD efficiency.
  • Develop world-class talent: Attract, develop, and integrate top engineering talent across multiple geographies, driving collaboration and innovation.
  • Lead post-merger integration: Oversee the technical consolidation of acquired platforms, ensuring seamless system performance.
  • Engage key stakeholders: Build strong relationships with product, sales, and executive leadership teams to champion customer-centric digital transformation.

Experience 
  • 10+ years of senior software engineering leadership experience, with expertise in cloud-native architectures, AI augmentation, and DevOps methodologies.
  • Proven success in scaling global engineering teams and leading complex post-merger technology integrations.
  • Extensive experience with multi-cloud, hybrid or cloud agnostic solutions across major providers (Azure, AWS, GCP), including onprem-to-cloud application migration programs.
  • Deep knowledge of modernizing monolithic systems into scalable microservices architectures.
  • Fluent in English; proficiency in Romanian, German, Polish, or Finnish is a plus.
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is strongly preferred.
