Job Summary


The Senior Director of Examination Services (SDES) provides strategic and operational leadership for ASPPB’s Examination Services Program, including the Examination for Professional Practice (EPPP)® and the Psychopharmacology Examination for Psychologists (PEP)®. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the SDES oversees departmental priorities, staffing, budgeting, vendor relationships, policy implementation, operational performance, committee support, and continuous improvement.

The SDES serves as ASPPB’s senior internal decision-maker on key examination operations, vendor matters, policies, timelines, and escalations. This position supervises the Director of Examination Operations (DEO) and the Test Development Coordinator; advises the CEO, Board of Directors, and member jurisdictions on examination program developments; and works with committees, vendors, consultants, and subject matter experts to support fair, valid, secure, and well-administered examinations.



Principle Responsibilities



  • Set strategic direction for ASPPB’s Examination Program and ensure accountability for program priorities, performance, and outcomes.

  • Directly supervise, coach, and evaluate the DEO and the Test Development Coordinator, and provide leadership and accountability for Examination Services staff through the department’s reporting structure.

  • Ensure effective day-to-day Examination Services operations, including workflow management, service standards, vendor issue tracking, staff coverage, reporting, and process improvement.

  • Direct and coordinate the consultant(s) supporting the Examination Services program to ensure alignment with program priorities, contractual requirements, and ASPPB’s goals.

  • Advise the CEO, and the BOD of the status, needs and progress of the Examination Program.

  • Prepare and oversee annual budget for Examination Program.

  • Communicate and consult with member jurisdictions regarding new exam developments and jurisdictional specific concerns.

  • Identify examination service needs, develop corresponding requests for proposals (RFPs), and lead contract negotiations with vendors supporting the Examination Program.

  • Advise Examination Program committees on project timelines, expectations, member responsibilities, and alignment with program priorities.

  • Provide staff support for and attend Examination Program committee meetings.

  • Oversee the timely resolution of exam candidate complaints, concerns and administration issues, providing leadership and guidance on escalated matters to ensure effective outcomes.

  • Provide oversight of disability accommodation processes to ensure timely and compliant fulfillment of requests and address escalated issues as needed.

  • Oversee the quality, accuracy, and integrity of Examination Program data and lead efforts to improve reporting processes and methodologies.

  • Ensure annual production of Psychology Licensing Exam Scores by Doctoral Program and support the development of individual program data reporting options.

  • Provide final administrative approval for examination forms prior to publication, following documented review and recommendations from appropriate committees, psychometric vendor, subject matter experts, and consultants.

  • Oversee strategic item bank health and support content-area item development in collaboration with the Director of Examination Operations and the EPPP Program Manager.

  • Chair the Committee of Examination Coordination to ensure the exam related policies and initiatives are properly developed and executed.

  • Collaborate with psychometric vendors, consultants, subject matter experts, and examination committees to monitor and maintain the fairness, validity, reliability, security, and defensibility of ASPPB examination programs.

  • Travel will be required to carry out various duties associated with this position.

  • Assume other responsibilities as assigned.


 


Skills and Qualifications



  • Doctoral level required in Psychology, Education, Assessment/Measurement, Statistics, or related field with a focus on test development/measurement.

  • Previous experience in licensure, certification, high-stakes testing, examination administration, or assessment operations highly desired.

  • 5+ years’ experience in leadership positions.

  • Excellent public speaking, verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve problems while proactively anticipating and mitigating potential issues.

  • Builds, leads, and develops high-performing teams through effective mentorship and guidance.

  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.

  • Self-motivated and self-directed.

  • Ability to lead initiatives and contribute as a collaborative team member in a dynamic environment.

Physical Demands:


Level 2: Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods. Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. at a time.


Sensory Requirements:


Level 1: The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, and speaking.

Level 1: The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards.
