Senior Director of Shelters & Clinical Support

The Senior Director of Shelters and Clinical Support (Denver Metro Region) directs and oversees daily operations of Denver Rescue Mission shelters and transitional programs in alignment with the Mission’s purpose, strategic objectives, and service philosophy. The role sets measurable goals and outcomes, evaluates program effectiveness, and drives continuous improvement. The Senior Director represents DRM in the community, building strong relationships with partner agencies and government entities to ensure dignified, client-centered services that foster safer, more secure, serene, sanitary, and socially supportive environments and support guests on their path to stable housing.

This position reports to the Vice President of Programs, Denver; advises the Chief Program Officer; and coordinates with Northern Colorado on shelter and housing interventions to advance DRM’s vision: Through the power of Christ, work to bring an end to homelessness in Metro Denver and Northern Colorado, one life at a time.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Programs

• Oversee and manage shelters and the Crossing Clinical Support Services in metro Denver; on site operations.
• Directly supervise the Director of Downtown Shelters, Director of 48th Avenue Shelter & Holly, and the Associate Director of Crossing Clinical Support Services.
• Ensure DRM’s unique approach to meeting guests and participants at their Spiritual Point of Need through Chaplain engagement.
• Coordinate with the Senior Clinical Director and Senior Director of Homelessness Resolution to achieve housing goals for those accessing services.
• Prioritize safety while striving to meet individual needs. 
• Evaluate shelter responses and interventions; recommend and implement service-delivery improvements.
• Ensure shelters and transitional programs comply with contracts, government regulations, and requirements.
• Partner with the Department of People & Culture to maintain adequate staffing and develop ongoing training so staff are equipped to perform their jobs.
• Ensure DRM is proactively engaged with external partner agencies and government entities related to shelter operations.
• Partner with the VP of Operations to meet operational needs unique to each facility.
• With the VP of Operations, ensure SCRIBE and HMIS operate in full support of case planning and outcome reporting.
• Partner with the VP of Development to share program changes, news, outcomes, and stories that support their efforts.
• In cooperation with Development and the CPO, pursue and manage government grants, contracts, and other funding.
• Provide leadership over program budgets; collaborate to ensure technological needs are met.
• Manage the annual operating budget, ensure financial viability of program services and property management, support housing growth, and report on progress and challenges.
• Coordinate client engagement across the continuum of care with the Senior Clinical Director and Senior Director of Homelessness Resolution.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Leadership

• Provide guidance on shelter-based interventions in Denver; coordinate with Northern Colorado; advocate for best practices and compliance with regulations related to client care.
• Work with the Senior Leadership Team to obtain and maintain licenses; advise on processes and procedures; elevate areas of concern.
• Advise and support funding efforts tied to shelters.
• Lead the Denver shelter and clinical support teams; monitor performance, conduct annual reviews, and build cross-department team cohesion.
• Provide effective, inspiring leadership and stewardship of Mission resources through active oversight of shelter programs and services.
• Create avenues for staff, clients, and partners to provide feedback on program operations.
• Build and cultivate community relationships to expand resources and support for DRM’s efforts.
• Attend Board of Directors meetings, trainings, events, and other functions as required.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS  

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Seven years of directly related experience, including at least five years of high-level leadership developing and implementing comprehensive programs of comparable size.
• Experience in program development, evaluation, and strategic growth; understanding of volunteer-supported organizations.
• Experience using databases that support program management.
• Demonstrated financial, organizational, project management, people management, and administrative skills.
• Passion for and understanding of DRM’s mission and values.
• Experience leading diverse teams with a clear management philosophy that supports high performance and retention.
• Strong relationship building, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Office 365.
• Active driver’s license and ability to travel to Mission facilities, meetings, events, conferences, and trainings (in-state and out-of-state; may include overnights).
• Ability to respond during and outside normal working hours.
• Must be a Christian who holds to the Statement of Faith, expressed by personal testimony and Christian conduct.
