# Senior Director, Supplier Engineering\n\nBUSINESS UNIT: Varian Semiconductor Equipment (VSE) \u2013 Silicon Systems Group (SSG)\n\nLOCATION: Gloucester, MA\n\nROLE SUMMARY\n\nThe Senior Director of Supplier Engineering leads a global, multidisciplinary technical organization responsible for building a resilient, cost\u2011effective, and innovation\u2011enabled supply chain. This role shapes and executes long\u2011range strategies that enhance supply continuity, scale engineering capability, strengthen supplier partnerships across regions, and ensure enterprise alignment. The position drives local and global collaboration, enables cost transformation, improves supplier readiness, and builds the Best Known Methods (BKMs) library deployed across the enterprise.\n\nA critical component of this role is the ability to present strategy to executive leadership, influence direction, and garner cross\u2011functional buy\u2011in across Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, Finance, and Product organizations. Organization awareness and ability to influence others is crucial for this role.\n\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES\n\nStrategic Leadership \u0026 Business Alignment\n\n\u2022 Define and execute the multi\u2011year strategy for Supplier Engineering aligned with BU priorities, product roadmaps, and Applied\u2019s global supply chain objectives.\n\n\u2022 Provide clear strategic direction to improve supply continuity, supplier capability, engineering quality, and cost structure. Requires strong cross-functional alignment with goals and objectives of the Varian and GSC AOP\u2019s to enable corporate success.\n\n\u2022 Influence executive leadership through data\u2011driven sourcing, capability, and risk\u2011mitigation recommendations.\n\n\u2022 Present long\u2011range strategies, risk models, and capability roadmaps to executive leadership to secure support and resource alignment.\n\nSupply Chain Resilience \u0026 Long\u2011Range Risk Mitigation\n\n\u2022 Develop and lead multi\u2011sourcing strategies, regional supply models, technical capability roadmaps, and Business Continuity Planning (BCP). This includes a strong Single Point of Failure (SPOF) strategy development and execution plan.\n\n\u2022 Drive proactive risk identification and escalation processes with Global Supply Chain.\n\nCross\u2011Functional Collaboration \u0026 Influence\n\n\u2022 Collaborate extensively across Product Engineering, NPI, Commodity Management, Operations, Quality, Program Management, and Finance.\n\n\u2022 Lead cross\u2011functional steering teams to synchronize supplier strategies and decision\u2011making.\n\n\u2022 Align global and local supply chain teams to ensure consistent communication and execution.\n\n\u2022 Drive organizational alignment and cross\u2011functional adoption of major initiatives.\n\nTechnical Leadership of the Engineering Organization\n\n\u2022 Lead and develop a high\u2011performance engineering team responsible for increasing supplier capability, manufacturability, and technical problem resolution.\n\n\u2022 Establish technical standards, methods, and engineering expectations and dissemination into the organization.\n\nCost Reduction \u0026 Value Engineering\n\n\u2022Support a robust cost\u2011reduction strategy via should\u2011cost modeling, specification refinement, process optimization and produce re-design via DFM.\n\n\u2022 Enable and drive measurable year\u2011over\u2011year total landed cost improvements to meet overall BU AOP metrics.\n\nBest Known Methods (BKMs) Development \u0026 Dissemination\n\n\u2022 Build and scale a comprehensive BKMs portfolio including engineering standards, supplier readiness frameworks, and technical playbooks.\n\n\u2022 Drive adoption through structured deployment and global training.
