Senior Electrical Design Engineer

Local 3 Westchester electrical contractor seeks Senior Electrical Design Engineer for their growing business.

We are seeking an experienced Senior VDC Design Engineer to lead electrical design coordination, BIM/VDC

modeling, and prefabrication initiatives for complex commercial, industrial, and mission-critical projects, including data

centers.

The ideal candidate brings a minimum of 10 years of electrical design and VDC experience, advanced Revit expertise,

strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), and a proven ability to lead projects, improve design workflows,

and train and mentor junior engineers. This individual will serve as a technical leader, bridging engineering, field

operations, and fabrication teams to deliver accurate, coordinated, and constructible electrical designs.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead electrical VDC design and modeling for large-scale commercial, industrial, and mission-critical projects, including

data centers.

• Develop, review, and coordinate detailed electrical models and construction drawings using Revit, BIM, and AutoCAD.

• Oversee electrical layouts for power distribution, lighting, low-voltage systems, conduit routing, and equipment

installations.

• Ensure designs comply with NEC requirements, applicable local codes, project specifications, and industry best

practices.

• Lead BIM coordination efforts with general contractors, architects, MEP engineers, and other trades to identify and

resolve design conflicts.

• Develop fabrication-ready drawings, spool sheets, detailed layouts, exploded views, and modular assemblies to support

prefabrication.

• Incorporate laser scanning, point cloud data, and reality capture technologies to verify field conditions and improve model

accuracy.

• Work closely with project management, field supervision, and fabrication teams to ensure designs reflect constructability,

installation sequencing, and field requirements.

• Conduct site visits and provide technical support throughout installation, coordination, and commissioning.

• Establish and maintain VDC standards, modeling procedures, drawing templates, and quality control processes.

• Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce rework, and increase prefabrication efficiency through technology

and process improvements.

• Train, mentor, and develop junior and mid-level engineers, providing technical guidance, reviewing their work, and

helping establish consistent design standards.

• Lead internal design reviews, share technical knowledge, and promote continuous professional development across the

engineering team.

• Stay current with evolving electrical codes, VDC technologies, BIM practices, and emerging design tools.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical engineering, electrical design, VDC, BIM coordination, or a closely

related discipline.

• Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Revit and strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and BIM coordination platforms.

• Extensive knowledge of NEC requirements, electrical design principles, and applicable building codes.

• Demonstrated experience with electrical construction drawings, coordinated 3D models, and constructability reviews.

• Previous experience supporting electrical prefabrication, including fabrication drawings, conduit racks, modular

assemblies, and spool sheets.

• Experience with data center construction and other complex commercial or industrial projects.

• Proven ability to train, mentor, and provide technical direction to less-experienced engineers.

• Strong understanding of construction sequencing, field installation practices, and coordination between design,

fabrication, and operations.

• Familiarity with reality capture and scanning tools such as OpenSpace, Trimble, or Insta360 is preferred.

• Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and collaborate effectively with project teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

• Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility for licensure.

• Experience developing and implementing VDC standards, workflows, and quality control procedures.

• Familiarity with cloud-based project management and document management platforms.
