Job Description - Senior Electronic Warfare Systems Field Engineer



Full-time


Description

General Duties:

  • Provides Electronic Warfare (EW) field engineering support for the Fallon Tactical Training Range (FTTR). Must be familiar with military-fielded radar systems and demonstrate ability to support troubleshooting, installation, and integration of equipment and systems. 
  • Radar field engineering support to include troubleshooting, installation, and integration of equipment and systems at all EW/IADS sites on FTTR.
  • Project support as assigned, to include engineering assistance in design, fabrication, cost analysis, procurement, installation, configuration change, development, documentation, and integration of approved projects.
  • New requirements support as assigned, to include integration of system modifications, range reconfigurations and new facility buildups. These activities are further defined as those relative to ECPs and SCNs and the planning, proposal and implementation of modifications, improvements and upgrades.
  • Equipment relocation to include cost analysis optimization studies, engineering studies, integration and installation in support of range growth or other requirements.
  • Inoperative systems support as assigned, to include field-engineering actions necessary to return equipment/systems to operational status. TEC support to include engineering actions on equipment and software changes and additions relative to short-term operational test programs.
  • Support the Configuration Management (CM) program to include the evaluation and monitoring of all modifications to EW/IADS equipment or facilities, the generation of change requests to improve operability/reliability/maintainability, and ensuring that applicable CM standards are adhered to.
  • Assists in identifying sources of spare parts for EW/IADS systems. 
  • Documents maintenance actions in IEMS. 
  • Reports to an EW Manager

Requirements

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Minimum Experience Requirements:

  • Five years’ technical experience with Tactical Training Range systems or equivalent military systems.
  • Five years’ maintenance experience with non-simulator radar systems (i.e. military fielded systems of U.S and foreign origin) 
  • Nine years’ experience with increasing levels of responsibility in complex electronic systems.
  • Nine years’ electronic maintenance experience in the following areas:
  • ­ Digital/analog signal processing 
  • ­ Synchro-servo circuits 
  • ­ Radar, RF signal processing
  • ­ Electromechanical devices 
  • ­ Optical equipment
  • ­ Video signal processing and recording
  • ­ Communications (multiplexer equipment, VHF, UHF, microwave, riber-optic)
  • ­ Digital/analog computer systems
  • ­ DC power supplies, low voltage AC equipment, primary and secondary power equipment, auto-transfer (UPS) equipment, portable AC generators 
  • ­ Test equipment 
  • Five years’ operating experience with search, acquisition, ground control intercept, height finder or fire control radar systems, and familiarity with the employment of threat systems.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English. 

Minimum Position-Specific Training Required:

  • Formal classroom equivalent to Navy “C” School or vocational school with formal training in the field of electronic equipment maintenance and equipment manufacturer training.
  • Configuration Management awareness training
  • Possess a valid state Driver’s License

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

  • Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.  
  • Routine travel to remote site facilities may be involved.  
  • Work is occasionally performed in a shop or other facility environment that is moderately lighted, heated and ventilated, is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close placed and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in shop area.  
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.  
  • The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally in excess of 45 pounds. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration.  
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock. 

Citizenship and Security Clearance Requirements:

  • US Citizen
  • Obtain and maintain the appropriate level of clearance 

Cybersecurity Requirements:

This position has been designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position in specialty area, (48) – Telecommunications Management – Intermediate/Journeyman- and as a condition of employment incumbents of the position are required to comply with the DON Cyber IT/CSWF Program requirements of SECNAV M-5239.2, which include:

  1. Earn and maintain appropriate credentials from the Cyber IT/CSWF Qualification Matrix (described in SECNAV M-5239.2) associated with the specialty area and level commensurate with the scope of major assigned duties for the position to which you are assigned, and;
  2. Participate in a continuous learning program as described in SECNAVINST 1543.2. A minimum of 40 hours of Cyber IT/CSWF related continuous learning annually documented in a current individual development plan signed by both the employee and supervisor.
