About IPSD

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Caterpillar’s company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future.
 

Job Summary:

We’re seeking a Senior Engineering Project Team Leader for our Fluid Systems Engineering team. This person will be responsible for leading and directing complex engineering projects including the design, test, and development of new product concepts for release to production in a manner to ensure those products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability.


What You Will Do:
Own and shape program strategy

  • Define and refine program scope to address critical business challenges, product needs, and enterprise priorities

  • Translate ambiguous problems into structured, executable plans with clear outcomes

Lead complex, cross-functional execution

  • Drive alignment across engineering, product development, manufacturing, supply chain, and commercial teams

  • Manage multiple high-risk, high-impact projects simultaneously, ensuring delivery against cost, quality, and timing targets

Provide technical and product leadership

  • Guide technical direction and decision-making across programs

  • Engage subject matter experts to resolve complex technical challenges and ensure sound engineering solutions

  • Ensure integration of product requirements across systems, platforms, and lifecycle stages

Establish and improve processes

  • Champion and evolve project management, product development, and requirements management best practices

  • Drive adoption of tools, standards, and methods that improve execution, traceability, and quality

Develop people and organizational capability

  • Direct project staffing and build high-performing teams

  • Mentor and coach engineers to elevate technical capability, project execution, and leadership skills

  • Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement

Ensure program performance and accountability

  • Monitor and control program execution, including risk, cost, and critical path

  • Drive timely resolution of issues and ensure transparency through effective stakeholder communication


What You Will Have:
Products and Services: Knowledge of major products and services and product and service groups; ability to apply knowledge of product and service appropriately to diverse situations.

Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.


Influencing Through Expertise: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to use these to deepen own expertise and impact or challenge decisions within and outside own organization.

Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.


Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.

Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.

Education: Degree from an accredited Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering Program or related field

Summary Pay Range:

$147,760.00 - $221,640.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
