Job Description - Senior Environment, Health and Safety Engineer

Eaton\u2019s ES AMER ARS division is currently seeking a Senior Environment, Health and Safety Engineer. This role will take place out of our growing facility in Sumter, SC. We are able to offer relocation assistance for qualified candidates within the United States. \n\nThe Senior Environmental Health \u0026 Safety Engineer is responsible for leading, implementing, and continuously improving all aspects of the site\u2019s Environmental, Health, and Safety programs. This role provides technical expertise, drives compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements, partners with leadership to influence culture, and ensures robust risk reduction initiatives aligned with a Zero Incident Culture. The position plays a critical role in deploying the MESH (Management System of Environmental, Safety and Health) framework and in supporting operational excellence across the facility.\n\nThe expected annual salary range for this role is $86000 - $126000 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program.\n\nPlease note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. \n\n## What you\u2019ll do:\n\nRisk Assessment \u0026 Hazard Control \n\n * Lead and direct risk assessments to identify critical EHS hazards and aspects throughout the facility as well as works station risk assessments, implementing corrective actions and engineering/administrative controls.\n\n\n\nEngineering \u0026 Technical Support\n\n * Identify and implement risk reduction opportunities related to EHS and operational improvements.\n * Determine safe manufacturing methods and sustainability improvement projects that require advanced project management.\n * Evaluate, specify, and support implementation of new or existing machine tools, equipment, and automation to ensure safe and efficient operations.\n * Demonstrate proficiency in identifying high risk activity, lead problem solving events, and ensure that corrective actions are sustained.\n\n\n\nPerformance Metrics, Indicators \u0026 Reporting\n\n * Partner with EHS and operations leadership to develop performance targets and objectives aligned with key risks. Track and analyze leading and lagging indicators to evaluate site EHS performance through KPI dashboards, scorecards, and metrics reporting (including MESH Prism data entry and corrective action tracking).\n * Lead incident investigations, develop action plans, and trend incident data for OSHA 300 recordkeeping.\n\n\n\nMESH Implementation \u0026 Leadership\n\n * Lead and support the implementation of the MESH management system across the facility. Participate in and co-lead MESH teams, using MESH tools to drive system-level improvements. \n * Train and mentor MESH Element Owners/Champions to build organizational competency and ownership.\n\n\n\nEnvironmental Compliance \u0026 Sustainability\n\n * Support and maintain environmental compliance programs, including wastewater permits, sampling requirements, solid waste, and stormwater management. \n * Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to environmental performance, sustainability, and lifecycle waste management.\n\n\n\nOperational \u0026 Cultural Leadership\n\n * Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including the EHS Committee and operations project teams.\n\n\n\n## Qualifications:\n\nRequired (Basic) Qualifications:\n\n * Bachelor\u2019s degree from an accredited institution.\n * Minimum 2 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or heavy operations environment.\n * Minimum 2 years of experience supporting OSHA regulations, environmental/chemical compliance, facilities compliance, security and/or emergency response.\n * Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated success in hazard identification, risk reduction, and incident investigation.\n * Eaton will not consider applicants for employment immigration sponsorship or support for this position. This means that Eaton will not support any CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT plans, F-1 to H-1B, H-1B cap registration, O-1, E-3, TN status, I-485 job portability, etc. \n\n\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\n\n * Bachelor\u2019s degree in Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field from an accredited institution.\n * At least 2 years of experience implementing or supporting an EHS management system (MESH, ISO 14001, ISO 45001). \n * Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent. \n * Wastewater Operator Certification B\n\n\n\n## Skills:\n\n * Strong data analytics, reporting, and problem-solving skills. \n * Ability to influence diverse teams and drive progress without direct authority. \n * Strategic thinking \u0026 planning\n * Technical EHS expertise\n * Leadership \u0026 influence\n * Continuous improvement mindset\n * Strong communication and training skills\n * Data-driven decision-making\n\n\n\nPhysical Demands: \n\nWhile performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; reach at or above shoulder level; grip; and use hands to handle and feel. The employee is frequently required to walk; stoop; lift; carry; push; pull; and grip. The employee is frequently required to lift/carry up to 35 pounds. The employee is frequently required to push/pull up to or greater than 35 pounds. The vision requirements include far and close vision with depth perception and color discrimination.
