ABOUT HEDRICK BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION
Hedrick Brothers Construction is a premier commercial general contractor headquartered in West Palm Beach, Florida, with offices in Winter Park, Stuart, and Miami, and a team of more than 215 professionals. Now in our 47th year, we’ve spent nearly five decades building more than buildings — we’ve built relationships, trust, and a culture grounded in GRIT: Growth, Resourcefulness, Integrity, and Team. We build hospitality, multifamily, industrial, healthcare, and public-sector projects across the state of Florida, from Tallahassee to Miami, with project sizes ranging from $5M to $160M.
THE OPPORTUNITY
As a Senior Estimator at Hedrick Brothers, you are the cost-truth on every pursuit you touch. From early conceptual budgets through final GMP Estimates, you bring discipline, judgment, and accuracy to one of the most consequential functions at the company — helping HBC chase the right work, price it correctly, and win it competitively.
You will work directly under the Chief Estimator and partner closely with the Director of Preconstruction, project executives, operations, and the broader pursuit team. You bring more than estimating skill — you bring construction expertise, calm under bid-day pressure, and the experience to see risk before it shows up in a project.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Estimating & Cost Modeling
- Prepare detailed estimates across all design stages — Conceptual, Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction Documents.
- Build conceptual budgets from limited information — applying construction expertise and historical cost data to deliver credible early-stage pricing.
- Perform quantity take-offs of construction documents across all trades.
- Develop bid packages including front-end documents, scopes of work, bid breakdown forms, site logistics, and project schedule — with input from operations.
- Prepare clean, properly formatted Bid Leveling Worksheets for each trade.
- Identify long-lead materials and flag potential schedule risks early.
Bid Strategy & Risk
- Analyze drawings and specifications to determine estimated costs across structural, MEP, civil, and finishes.
- Review project plans for constructability issues alongside the operations team during preconstruction.
- Identify and document risk — communicating major exposures to the Chief Estimator and Director of Preconstruction before bid submission.
- Develop clear qualifications and clarifications summaries with input from operations — protecting HBC and the client from misaligned scope at award.
- Consult with clients, architects, subcontractors, and material suppliers to formulate estimates, drive value engineering, and resolve open items.
Subcontractor & Trade Partner Coordination
- Solicit bids from subcontractors and material suppliers — ensuring adequate bid coverage for every trade.
- Develop and maintain subcontractor relationships across all sectors and markets HBC operates in.
- Seek and qualify new subcontractors to strengthen our trade partner base across the state of Florida.
- Communicate with subcontractors on key issues including scopes of work, project schedule, addenda, and other bid information.
- Manage requests for information (RFIs) and addenda issued during the bid process.
Bid Management & Delivery
- Review requirements of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and contribute to delivery planning.
- Prepare bid calendars and ensure timely completion of estimates across multiple concurrent pursuits.
- Maintain competitive bid history and historical cost data for statistical bidding and conceptual budgeting accuracy.
- Inspect project sites prior to estimating — verifying plan versus site conditions and identifying potential problems.
- Conduct project turnover meetings with project management teams for awarded projects — ensuring a clean handoff from precon to operations.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Present and review project estimates with clients, designers, and operations teams.
- Lead preconstruction activities on complex projects, ensuring accurate budgets, coordinated scopes, and successful project delivery while maintaining high levels of client satisfaction.
- Mentor estimating staff informally — sharing knowledge of estimating methods, software, and HBC standards.
- Develop and maintain resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, and industry trends.
- Conduct job evaluations on completed projects to drive continuous improvement of the estimating process.
