I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) at the George Washington University's Milken Institute School of Public Health (SPH) is searching for a Senior Financial Analyst, EOH will oversee all departmental financial, sponsored projects, and human resource operations. The position will report to the department Chair, and will work closely with administrative staff at the School and University. The position will join a thriving and exciting community of scholars with a positive culture of collaboration and support among faculty, staff, and students.

The EOH Department conducts research and trains undergraduate and graduate students on environmental and occupational exposures that impact human health. EOH explores the underlying science and policy for issues such as sustainable cities and food systems, climate change mitigation, chemicals in agriculture and consumer products, workplace safety, infectious diseases and antibiotic resistance, and risk management. EOH faculty lead strong research programs funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), foundations, and other sources. The department offers two MPH programs, an online MPH concentration in Climate and Health (MPH@GW), several joint programs (BS/MPH, PA/MPH, JD/MPH, and MD/MPH), and a PhD program.

Specific duties include:

Financial management:
Work closely with the Chair to develop an overall financial strategy to ensure departmental growth, monitor the annual budget, review and approve all departmental expenditures, and track revenue and expenses.
Work closely with SPH finance directors on departmental budget issues.
Serve as liaison for fiscal and administrative matters with all entities within the university such as Accounts Payable, Procurement, Payroll, etc.

Sponsored projects:
Work closely with the SPH Research Administration team (POD2) to provide accurate, timely, and professional post-award administrative support services to faculty and research staff in the department. This includes procurement of goods and services, consultant agreements, services agreements, travel requests, annual progress reports, award closeouts, labor distribution, effort reports, etc.
Meet with POD2 staff and Principal Investigators monthly or quarterly to review award expenditures and make adjustments and revisions as necessary.

Human resources:
Work closely with SPH Human Resources and Faculty Affairs teams to manage the department's hiring and onboarding processes, and other human resources related matters.
Supervise part-time student support staff.
Review and approve biweekly payroll for students and staff.
Initiate all human resources-related activities for the department.

The position will also perform other work-related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Administrative and financial experience in higher education research administration.
Proficiency in data management, document preparation, and management and spreadsheet creation.
Excellent organizational, customer service, written and verbal communication skills.
Team player with a commitment to customer service.
Working knowledge of Banner, EAS, Tableau, and I-Buy (Procurement) systems is preferred.
Excellent financial, research, and human resource management skills.

Hiring Range
$80,927.47 - $111,231.23 How is pay for new employees determined at GW?
