Description

The Department of Ophthalmology is seeking an experienced and collaborative Senior Fiscal & Business Analyst -  Clinical Research (Dept. Ophthalmology) to support a growing portfolio of more than 30 clinical trials and sponsored research projects. This position will serve as a key financial partner to principal investigators, research coordinators, and departmental leadership. The role will focus on developing clinical trial budgets, managing study and grant finances after award, forecasting expenses and revenue, tracking sponsor payments, and allocating personnel across multiple funding sources. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, comfortable working independently, and experienced in clinical research finance, grants management, or sponsored-project administration. This is an opportunity to play a central role in building the financial infrastructure of a rapidly expanding clinical research program.

This position is Grant-Funded. This position is not eligible for Visa Sponsorship.

On-Site. Monday - Friday 8:00am-5:00pm.



Responsibilities
  • Balances the budget(s) by performing a detailed review and analysis of the actual vs. budget for numerous accounts. Advises management/faculty/PIs of potential areas of over/under allocation, and when any budget transfers need to take place.
  • Prepares financial reports, statements and spreadsheets to consolidate financial activities, which are utilized by management, PIs and/or accountable officers.
  • Develop budgets for industry-sponsored clinical trials, investigator-initiated studies, federal grants, and foundation-funded research.
  • Review protocols and study requirements to ensure budgets appropriately include personnel, procedures, start-up activities, participant costs, and institutional fees.
  • Support clinical trial budget negotiations with sponsors and contract research organizations.
  • Manage study and grant finances from award activation through closeout.
  • Monitor revenue, expenses, sponsor payments, invoicing, account balances, and financial performance.
  • Track billable study activities and help ensure that sponsor invoices and payments are accurate and timely. 
  • Allocate salaries and personnel effort across clinical trials, grants, and departmental accounts. 
  • Develop efficient templates and tracking tools for budgets, staffing, invoicing, and financial reporting. 
  • Performs other program, grant, auxiliary or department specific financial or budget related activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or other field directly related to the position's specific responsibilities and 4-6 years of fiscal related work experience; or a Bachelor's degree in no specific required field and fours years of fiscal related work experience; or six years fiscal related work experience. 

• Senate Bill 1310- The Florida Senate (https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2023/1310) is conditional upon meeting all employment eligibility requirements in the U.S. 

• SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements

 • A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed: 

• (a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree; 

• (b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree; 

• (c) Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree; 

• (d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or 

• (e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree 

• Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment. 

• Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with industry-sponsored clinical trials.
  • Experience with NIH or other federally sponsored research.
  • Experience allocating personnel or salary support across multiple funding sources.
  • Familiarity with Uniform Guidance, research compliance, and academic medical-center financial systems.
  • Experience reviewing clinical trial protocols or schedules of events for budget development.
  • Advanced degree or relevant certification in research administration, finance, or accounting.
