We are seeking a highly experienced Senior HMI / SCADA Engineer to join a specialized engineering team delivering advanced automation solutions in material handling, distribution, and parcel-sortation environments. This is a Direct Hire / Permanent placement opportunity offering long-term career growth within a high-impact, expanding automation organization.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in HMI/SCADA platform development, tag architecture, system integration, and centralized visibility design across large-scale automated systems. If you have built your career around HMI/SCADA engineering — not as a secondary skill, but as your primary technical discipline — this role was designed for you.
● Design, develop, and maintain HMI and SCADA systems for large-scale automation and material handling environments
● Architect and manage complex tag structures, including tag nesting and hierarchical tag organization, to support full-system visibility
● Build and maintain system-wide communication frameworks that consolidate data from distributed devices into a centralized SCADA platform
● Develop HMI screens, dashboards, and operator interfaces that provide clear, actionable visibility into automation system status
● Integrate HMI/SCADA platforms with PLCs, I/O devices, network infrastructure, and enterprise systems
● Define and enforce HMI/SCADA standards, naming conventions, and design guidelines across projects
● Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to HMI/SCADA performance, connectivity, and data accuracy
● Support commissioning and startup activities on-site, including validation of SCADA communication and HMI functionality
● Collaborate with controls engineers, network engineers, and project managers to ensure seamless system integration
● Extensive hands-on experience with industrial HMI and SCADA platforms — this is the primary technical focus of the role
● Proficiency with one or more of the following platforms: Ignition (Inductive Automation), Ignition Perspective, Ignition Vision, FactoryTalk, Wonderware (AVEVA), or equivalent enterprise SCADA tools
● Deep expertise in tag structure design, tag management, and tag nesting within SCADA environments
● Strong understanding of how automation devices (PLCs, VFDs, sensors, scanners) communicate data to centralized SCADA systems
● Experience with network architecture and industrial communication protocols (OPC-UA, MQTT, Ethernet/IP, Modbus, etc.)
● Familiarity with Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Studio 5000 or similar PLC platforms as they relate to SCADA integration
● Ability to design systems that provide centralized monitoring, alarming, data logging, and reporting
● Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered
● 5+ years of focused HMI/SCADA engineering experience in industrial automation, material handling, or distribution environments
● Experience with the Ignition (Inductive Automation) platform specifically is highly desirable
● Background in large-scale or enterprise SCADA deployments across multi-device or multi-site systems
● Prior work in distribution center (DC), parcel-sortation, fulfillment center, or intralogistics automation environments
