Job Title: Senior Manager, Support Services

Reports to: Senior Director, Operations

Job Status: Full-Time

Location On-site, Southfield, MI

Salary: ($80,000-$90,000)

Summary

Founded in 2002, Beyond Basics is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to eradicate illiteracy, transforming the lives of students, and creating stronger communities. Our one-on-one, multisensory tutoring program helps students achieve grade-level proficiency in reading in an average of six weeks. In addition to our structured literacy interventions, we cultivate curiosity and encourage a love of lifelong learning with fine arts activities that expand horizons.

The Senior Manager, Support Services is responsible for leading the team that provides process, project, and school support services. This individual is responsible for documenting and validating compliance with cross-functional service delivery processes. Additionally, this position will oversee the implementation of art and writing enrichment activities within the broader literacy curriculum. In supervising the School Support Services function, this Senior Manager will ensure all Beyond Basics program locations are equipped with appropriate supplies, and that we are efficiently managing procurement, inventory management and logistics to store and move supplies. There will be a quality and data component to the role that requires thorough project management documentation, reporting methods, and data analysis. This position will be instrumental in developing and/or enhancing internal processes and infrastructure that will allow Beyond Basics to continue to grow and fulfill its mission.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of management level staff.
  • Establish procurement policies, processes, and procedures that centralize buying and leverage volume to reduce costs.
  • Evaluate and improve efficiency of supply transportation and storage methods.
  • Lead cross-functional process documentation and routine process audit routines.
  • Lead organization-wide document and record retention policies and annual file review processes.
  • Prepare and submit budget estimates, project reports or cost tracking reports as needed.
  • Supervise the implementation of the enrichment programming at Beyond Basics; ensure staff is trained and prepared to deliver the enrichment programming.
  • Closely monitor enrichment data metrics to ensure programming is delivered.
  • Manage partner location supply order and classroom set-up.
  • Supervise team in tracking inventory, storing supplies and ordering materials as needed.
  • Manage ongoing quality control and participate in quality issue resolution.
  • Identify best practices and improve internal systems with an eye toward future needs and budget realities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with team members, colleagues, and community/school partners.

Education and Skills Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Thorough understanding of project management; able to work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines and goals.
  • Strong operational experience: ideally has worked in a management role with direct supervision of employees for 5+ years.
  • Experience building strong teams with a customer/client focus and excellence in service delivery.
  • Creative thinker and detail oriented.
  • Highly organized multi-tasker who is a self-starter.
  • Exemplary oral and written communication skills.
  • Adaptable to change and can work in a cross-functional, collaborative team environment.
  • Experience managing a budget.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide array of people—junior and senior, for-profit, and nonprofit, and from diverse backgrounds.
  • A successful record of accomplishment in setting priorities and shaping processes that create a stronger and more efficient organization.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to the Beyond Basics mission.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to personal transportation for potential travel to schools throughout Michigan.

Work Environment

This position operates on-site in an office environment on a day-to-day basis. It will at times require travel to local schools and may require limited travel outside of Metro Detroit.
