Senior Mechanical Automation Engineer Pay Range: $85,000 - $100,000, based on experience Location: Westbrook, Maine (On-site)

We are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Automation Engineer to join our engineering team in Westbrook, Maine. In this role, you’ll design and support advanced automation systems from concept through commissioning. You’ll collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers as well as project teams to turn designs into fully functional machines. This position offers hands‑on involvement with cutting‑edge technologies and the opportunity to see your designs come to life in real‑world manufacturing environments. If you enjoy mechanical design, problem solving, and working directly with equipment, this is an excellent opportunity. Mechanical Automation Engineer Duties and Responsibilities:
Design and engineer advanced automated assembly stations from concept through final build
Produce complete mechanical design packages, including:
Assembly and detail drawings
Bills of material (BOMs)
Station descriptions and I/O designations
Participate in internal and customer design reviews
Estimate and document station cycle times
Support machine builds through purchasing, manufacturing, assembly, and debug phases
Lead vendor communications and Requests for Quotation
Develop test plans and perform risk analyses
Review technical scope, cost, and schedule with the Project Engineer
Manage your work with awareness of project schedules and budgets
Additional Duties May Include:
Support development and updates of machine manuals
Assist Applications Engineering and Sales with quotations and technical specifications
Help develop and maintain mechanical design standards
Support Customer Service and Field Engineering as needed
Assist with special projects and new employee training
Mechanical Automation Engineer Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
7+ years of experience in automation or machine design
Strong mechanical system design expertise with exposure to sensors and control systems
Proficiency in 3-D CAD and Microsoft Office
Ability to perform tolerance stack-up analyses and advanced mechanical engineering calculations
Working knowledge of:
Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
Basic machining practices
MRP system processes
Familiarity with ISO procedures and structured engineering environments
