Job Description - Senior Medical Science Liaison

Position: Medical Science Liaison (MSL) / Senior Medical Science Liaison (Sr. MSL)
Reports to:

Field Medical Director

Overview:
The MSL / Sr. MSL will play a crucial role in driving the success of clinical programs by engaging and developing relationships with key decision-makers and medical experts in the inpatient space. This role will involve facilitating program success, conducting scientific exchanges, and supporting the dissemination of scientific and clinical information.

Primary Responsibilities:
Facilitate Program Success:
Uncover how and where patients are being treated.
Understand the diagnostic and treatment journey for patients.
Scientific Exchange:
Conduct fair and balanced scientific exchanges with healthcare practitioners in clinics and at medical congresses.
Capture clinical and scientific insights to inform clinical development programs and gather information about the competitive landscape.
Support Information Dissemination:
Disseminate scientific and clinical information within the patient advocacy community.
Relationship Building:
Serve as a scientific resource to disease experts and the medical community with up-to-date relevant medical and product information.
Identify and develop key medical experts and build strong relationships with thought leaders in inpatient nephrology, infection prevention, and pharmacy.
Identify Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee members.
Medical Information:
Respond to requests for medical information in the region, ensuring accurate and fair-balanced responses consistent with company compliance training.
Clinical Insights:
Gather clinical insights and information about the population and treatment landscape for each disease state.
Communicate insights to internal partners to facilitate the successful design and implementation of clinical programs.
Collaboration:
Work with colleagues on initiatives including publications, investigator-sponsored research, advisory boards, symposia, and presentations.
Serve as a scientific resource at key medical and scientific conferences, and liaise with patient advocacy groups as needed.
Engage with patient advocacy groups and physician organizations to provide appropriate support through grants.
Expertise Development:
Develop expertise and an in-depth understanding of disease states, products, competitors, marketplace, related medical areas, and regulatory guidelines.
Effectively present clinical data to inform physicians, payers, and internal partners.
Clinical Trial Support:
Enhance clinical trial enrollment by identifying principal investigators, educating about protocols, facilitating relationships between investigators and Clinical Operations, and assisting with start-up activities.
Educate physicians about clinical trials, identify potential clinical trial and referral centers, and partner cross-functionally to execute clinical trials successfully.

Skills & Requirements:
Proven ability to create materials, including reports and presentations.
Track record of effective internal cross-functional collaboration.
Clinical and commercial stage experience, including pre- and post-launch.
Ability to adapt to the nimbleness of a small company.
Willingness to travel approximately 60-70%, including international travel when conditions allow.

Qualifications:
PhD, PharmD, MD, DO, MSN, or PA/NP with an advanced degree.
1+ years of MSL experience preferred and 1-5+ years within an academic, healthcare system, or industry setting (preferably in infectious disease, nephrology, or acute care).
Experience in epidemiology and health economics related to renal disease, HD, or ID is a plus.
Background in nephrology, infectious disease, or pharmacy required.
Self-starter with experience building a territory from scratch, including identifying treating physicians, understanding population and treatment landscapes, and developing strong relationships.
Success working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Outstanding written and verbal communication, listening, and presentation skills to effectively communicate medical information, answer highly technical questions, and relay detailed questions and information back to internal teams.
