Senior Photonics Engineer

In this role, you will

• Investigate new lidar optical architecture concepts,


• Design, model, and simulate optical systems in Zemax,


• Perform laser classification analysis in support of laser product certification


• Perform experiments and collect data to test new concepts and designs


• Support Aurora’s lidar production engineering and NPI teams 


• Minor coding and software development in support of the above

Required Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in Photonics, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent field


• Strong optical design experience in Zemax or equivalent optical design tool


• 5+ years of relevant work experience

Desirable Qualifications 

• Work experience in optical sensing including lidar, 3D imaging, spectral imaging


• Demonstrated understanding of the laser classification and laser safety


• Demonstrated coding experience in Python or Matlab,


• Ability to take initiative and work independently to solve challenging problems,


• Team player with strong written and oral communication skills


• Familiarity with AI coding and productivity tools

The base salary range for this position is $135,000.00-$216,000.00 per year.  Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
