Our employees are not only part of history, they\u0027re making history.\n\nNorthrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Senior Principal Aeronautical Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Air Vehicle Hardware Avionics team. This role is located in Rancho Bernardo, CA. \n\nThe Air Vehicle Hardware Avionics team is responsible for vehicle flight control and safety. In this role, you will contribute to the team for management of the following subsystems: Radar Altimeter (RadAlt), Air Data System (ADS), and electro-mechanical flight control actuation system. You can expect to work independently and collaborate across multiple teams to deliver quality solutions. General duties will include flight/lab testing, Production/Field Support, anomaly resolution, and supplier management.\n\nThe role is dynamic as members of the team handle a broad range of activities across multiple phases of the program to include development, production, and operational support. Some of those responsibilities are:\n\n * Integrate avionics hardware, accounting for hardware capabilities/limitations, defining interfaces, and incorporating required redundancy.\n * Conduct investigations, system testing, and flight testing in lab environments.\n * Provide remote and on-site troubleshooting for Production and Field issues.\n * Support proposal development, technical planning, verification \u0026 validation, cost \u0026 risk analysis, and trade studies.\n * Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total system solutions that balance technical, schedule, and cost constraints. \n\n\n\nBasic Qualifications:\n\n * Must have a Bachelor\u0027s in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) field and at least 8 years of relevant professional / military avionics experience, or a Master\u0027s Degree in STEM and at least 6 years of relevant professional / military experience, or a PhD Degree with at least 4 years of relevant professional / military experience\n * Must have the ability to maintain and obtain a DoD Secret clearance within a reasonable time as determined by business needs\n * Must have experience with the following SW Tools: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, Visio), Matlab\n * Must have experience with test equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, signal analyzers, multi-meters)\n\n\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\n\n * Active DoD Secret security clearance or higher\n * Comprehensive knowledge of avionics components, including RadAlt, Air Data, and FCAS\n * Experience with system redundancy and associated safety analysis\n * Familiarity with databuses and related protocols, such as MIL-STD-1553, RS-485, ARINC-429\n * Experience performing system-level design/troubleshooting\n * Flight Test experience: Some experience\n * Supplier management: Some experience\n * Requirements verification testing: Some experience\n * Prior experience as a military, civil, or commercial avionics technician\n\n\n\nPrimary Level Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00\n\nThe above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate\u0027s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.\n\nDepending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
