Collins Aerospace is currently seeking a Senior Principal Software Engineer for the development of software for automation in a manufacturing environment. The person hired will focus on the full lifecycle of applications including requirements capture, development, software architecture, integration, testing, and configuration management. This will include integration and test of new features within existing software applications. The overarching roles and responsibilities of this site team are to promote and implement changes in a manufacturing operations environment to achieve site goals around improving quality, reducing costs, improving the flow of product, and making our factory smarter through Industry 4.0 type initiatives. This position will provide the opportunity for independent action AND working in a team environment of manufacturing engineers, production personnel, management, and other support organizations.

This individual will sit Onsite at our Collins Aerospace location in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Primary Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities for this position will be site level projects in a manufacturing environment where the development of software applications is necessary for automation and compliance. This job will focus primarily on these areas:

Understand Collins Aerospace processes related to software development and can apply them to current project
Full lifecycle development of applications including requirements capture and development, software architecture, integration and testing, and documentation of software of moderate complexity
Integrating and testing changes to existing software applications
Producing engineering estimates. May contribute to Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) and Bid proposals and/or lead a team in a Project Engineering role
Identify root cause of moderate to complex software issues and some systems issues using appropriate debug and analysis tools
Escalates and articulates/summarizes encountered technical software issues to project leadership in a timely fashion
Expand knowledge: Requirements capture, analysis, design, development, test and release software processes, tools, methods, and coding best practices
Lead and/or participate in cross-functional team efforts in definition, integration, verification, and validation of products and sub-systems of moderate complexity
Standard work around software configuration management and peer reviews including verification/qualification of applications in a manufacturing environment

Basic Qualifications
Experience with windows based application development
Experience with web based software development
Experience with C#, VB.NET, HTML, Java, WinForms, WPF, and Python
Experience with SQL databases
Experience with ASP.NET
This position requires the applicant to work in a restricted facility requiring U.S. Citizenship

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience

or

an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience

or

in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
