Job Description - Senior Program Coordinator, Duke-Durham Neighborhood Partnership

The Senior Program Coordinator will support and coordinate Duke Community Affairs’ neighborhood engagement initiatives, with a focus on fostering strong partnerships and delivering impactful programs within the Duke-Durham Neighborhood Partnership (DDNP).

 

The DDNP was established in 1996 to connect and collaborate with neighborhoods adjacent to campus. Since then, it has been a vital forum for sharing ideas and resources. Now comprising 14 neighborhood associations, the DDNP continues to serve as a strong network between the university and its surrounding communities.

 

The Senior Program Coordinator will have strong organizational skills, relationship-building expertise, and a commitment to advancing equitable community development through collaborative engagement. The ideal candidate brings a warm, relational approach to community partnership, demonstrating empathy, dependability and a talent for building trust across diverse neighborhoods and stakeholder groups.

 


Minimum Qualifications


 


Education


 


Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.


 


Experience


 


Work requires three years of experience in program administration or involving academic, instructional or counseling activities to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

This position is responsible for coordinating and facilitating community-driven priorities, maintaining comprehensive program documentation, and supporting the Senior Director of Community Development with strategic planning aligned with Duke’s Strategic Community Impact Plan. The role requires a collaborative leader who can build relationships across diverse stakeholders, manage operational processes, and ensure effective monitoring and reporting of outcomes.

 


What You’ll Do:


 

Program Planning, Coordination, Facilitation & Relationship Building (45%)

 


  • Cultivate strong, trust-based relationship with neighborhood leaders and partners by serving as a consistent connector who listens deeply, follows through reliably, and fosters collaboration across communities

  • Coordinate implementation of neighborhood priorities, including a recurring neighborhood visioning process and ongoing alignment with DDNP focus areas

  • Support the Senior Director in developing strategies, goals, and deliverables for neighborhood engagement initiatives aligned with the Strategic Community Impact Plan


 

Documentation & Archiving (20%)

 


  • Maintain organized and centralized records of current and historic program materials


 

Operations & Collaboration (15%)

 


  • Oversee program operations by managing budgets, participating in staff planning efforts, collaborating with internal DCA and Duke teams to align work with neighborhood priorities


 


Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting (10%)

 


  • Track, document, and analyze progress and stakeholder feedback aligned with neighborhood priorities and grantmaking activities


 

Community Participation (10%)


  • Participate in internal or external volunteer positions on nonprofit boards, committees, coalitions, or councils that align with position goals and focus

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $48,960.00 to USD $77,928.00.
