Senior Revenue Accountant

The Basics:

Tanium is looking for an experienced Senior Revenue Accountant who will be a key contributor to the Revenue Accounting team. This position will be responsible for driving key aspects of the revenue recognition process while ensuring compliance with GAAP standards and ASC 606 across all product and service revenue streams. You will partner cross-functionally with Deal Desk, Legal, and Sales during contract negotiations and advise on deal structures. Day-to-day, you will support the Revenue Accounting team by documenting technical revenue conclusions for customer contracts, preparing revenue-related accounting close deliverables, and helping to administer revenue operational processes. 

We are looking for a detail-oriented individual with excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Not only do you hold yourself to the highest level of integrity, but you are a self-starter and take ownership in your work product. This role would be ideal for someone with a background in audit and accounting and wants to grow their career in Revenue Recognition. 

This is a hybrid position, which will require in person attendance several days each week in one of the following locations: Addison, TX; Bellevue, WA; Durham, NC; Emeryville, CA; or Reston, VA.

What you’ll do:

• Review customer contracts and document assessments in deal review checklists to ensure compliance with Tanium’s revenue recognition policy and ASC 606  


• Drive revenue and commissions monthly and quarterly close processes by preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and period-over-period account fluctuation analyses   


• Collaborate with Revenue Operations to ensure customer contracts are recorded accurately in NetSuite 


• Partner cross-functionally with other business groups (Deal Desk, Legal, Sales Operations) on deal negotiations  


• Assist with technical revenue memos and updates to the Company’s revenue recognition policy as needed  


• Prepare revenue related disclosures for annual financial statements 


• Support the accounting function by participating in process improvement projects and automation initiatives to enhance revenue operations efficiency.  


• Assist with ad-hoc projects as needed.  

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related area, CPA license preferred 
  
  
  
  

• Experience  
  
  
  
  • 4+ years combined accounting experience in public accounting and revenue recognition. SaaS/software experience preferred. 
  
  
  • In-depth knowledge of US GAAP and ASC 606 accounting standards  
  
  
  • Exceptional attention to detail with an appreciation for accuracy  
  
  
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills 
  
  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to translate complex, detailed topics to the team and leadership in a clear, logical manner 
  
  
  • Ability to work independently and proactively manage one’s own work streams as needed  
  
  
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel (Pivot tables, VLOOKUP, SUMIF, IF statements, etc.) 
  
  
  • Familiarity with NetSuite and Salesforce preferred

What you’ll get

The annual base salary range for this full-time position is $65,000 to $195,000. This range is an estimate for what Tanium will pay a new hire. The actual annual base salary offered may be adjusted based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, location, education, skills, training, and experience.
