Sr. Royalty Accountant - Music Merchandise Client
Full-time | Los Angeles, CA - Hybrid
COMPANY OVERVIEW
Our client is an entertainment merchandising company based in Hollywood, California, serving music artists across wholesale, e-commerce, managed tour, retail, and VIP revenue streams. They run merchandise programs for some of the biggest names in touring music, combining hands-on operational execution with modern financial systems and reporting. As they scale, they're investing in the people, processes, and technology that let them deliver an elite, professionally run merch operation for every artist they work with.
ROLE SUMMARY
This is the senior accounting seat that keeps the client's books clean, current, and correct every day. The primary focus is day-to-day accuracy — collections, receivables, the running close, and oversight of the offshore accountant who handles ledger, entries, and AP. Done right, that daily discipline is what makes the quarterly royalty process fast and painless.
Their clients are among the biggest touring artists in the world, and the settlement numbers they report back to them each quarter reflect the trust they place in our client. Those statements are only as good as the accounting that feeds them all quarter long — which is where this role earns its keep.
They're in the middle of modernizing the accounting stack — Acumatica plus automation tooling — to take over most of the mechanical lifting. This role oversees that stack: catching where the automations get something wrong, adjusting manually as needed, and keeping everything accurate through the transition. There may be some hands-on manual work in the near term while implementation finishes, but this is no longer a seat that hand-codes the GL all day. It's a seat that owns accuracy and knows when the automated answer is the wrong one.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
• Day-to-Day Accounting & Close - Own collections, accounts receivable, and the running day-to-day close. Keep the books current, clean, and reconciled across touring, e-commerce, retail/wholesale, and VIP. Reconcile Shopify Plus, merchant processors, and settlements to the GL.
• ERP & Automation Oversight - Operate fluently inside Acumatica and the automation tooling built around it (Acumatica Payments, AI-assisted workflows, Shopify Plus and Monday.com integrations). Monitor the automations, catch and correct errors they introduce, and make manual adjustments as needed. Comfort working in — and improving — a modern, automation-forward environment is core to the role.
• Month End Analysis & Close - Monthly project analysis with necessary accrued expense adjustments; accrue pending revenues. Royalty Accrual splits and reconciliations. Commission Accruals and payouts.
• Royalty & Settlement Accounting – Calculate quarterly artist royalties per each deal's terms; track advances and recoupment; and produce accurate, timely artist statements.
• Team Oversight - Review, approve, and QC the offshore accountant's ledger, journal entry, and AP work. You are accountable for the accuracy of what the function produces.
