Software Engineer – Full Stack (Python, React & AWS)

Position Overview

Genentech’s Research and Early Development (gRED), Early Clinical Development Informatics (ECDi) department is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to design, develop, and optimize software tools and platforms that accelerate clinical trial development and help bring life-changing medicines to patients faster.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on full-stack engineer with expertise in Python, ReactJS, AWS, test automation, and modern DevOps practices. This role involves building scalable production applications, developing automated testing frameworks, and collaborating with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into scalable, end-to-end software solutions.
  

• Design, develop, and maintain responsive web applications using JavaScript, ReactJS, and modern frontend technologies.
  

• Build and maintain backend services and APIs using Python frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
  

• Develop comprehensive automated testing suites for unit, integration, and end-to-end testing using tools such as Playwright, PyTest, and Jest.
  

• Build and manage CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar tools to support automated testing and continuous deployment.
  

• Provision, manage, and monitor AWS cloud infrastructure using Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, or CloudFormation.
  

• Apply AI-assisted development tools to improve coding efficiency, testing, and technical documentation.
  

• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including system design, coding, code reviews, architecture planning, and production support.
  

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building and supporting scalable production web applications.
  

• Strong backend development skills in Python, with experience using FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
  

• Proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+) and ReactJS for frontend application development.
  

• Experience with AWS cloud services and modern deployment practices.
  

• Hands-on experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code tools.
  

• Experience developing automated tests for frontend and backend applications using modern testing frameworks.
  

• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or Cursor.
  

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills.
  

• Commitment to writing clean, maintainable, testable, and reliable code.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building data-intensive applications that process and visualize complex datasets.
  

• Experience supporting production applications, including monitoring, incident response, and infrastructure troubleshooting.
  

• Experience designing end-to-end automated test frameworks for complex web applications.
  

• Proficiency in SQL, including complex queries and database performance optimization with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar databases.
  

• Knowledge of clinical development systems, industry data standards, and regulatory requirements such as 21 CFR Part 11, GxP, HIPAA, or GDPR.
  

• Experience working in an Agile software development environment.
