Company Description

We're representing a rapidly growing fintech company building modern infrastructure for private markets fund accounting. Following a recent $50M Series B, the company is scaling quickly while tackling some of the most technically challenging problems in financial software, including configurable workflow systems, proprietary calculation engines, and complex capital allocation infrastructure.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Calculations & Allocations team, you'll build the shared business logic layer that powers the entire platform. This is a backend-focused role with significant ownership, where you'll architect highly configurable systems, partner directly with executive leadership, and solve technically demanding problems where correctness and auditability are critical.

What You Will Do

  • Design and build the core calculation and allocation systems that underpin the company's platform.

  • Lead complex, multi-month engineering initiatives from architecture and design through production deployment.

  • Develop highly configurable backend systems, business logic, and data models supporting financial workflows.

  • Contribute to the company's proprietary expression language and calculation engine.

  • Design scalable workflow, orchestration, and rule-based systems that support evolving customer requirements.

  • Partner directly with engineering leadership, the CTO, and executive stakeholders on technical strategy.

  • Own system architecture, schema design, and long-term platform evolution.

  • Ensure correctness, auditability, reliability, and maintainability across mission-critical financial infrastructure.

  • Collaborate with teammates through architecture reviews, whiteboarding sessions, and technical mentorship.

  • Help establish engineering standards while contributing to a collaborative, high-ownership engineering culture.

Ideal Background

  • 6–12 years of professional backend software engineering experience.

  • Proven experience leading large, complex technical projects from architecture through production.

  • Strong backend engineering fundamentals with deep expertise in data modeling, schema design, and distributed systems.

  • Experience building highly configurable platforms, business logic engines, or shared infrastructure.

  • Startup experience, ideally at Seed through Series C companies, with a strong preference for founding engineers or early technical hires.

  • Experience working on systems where correctness, consistency, and auditability are essential.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or another technical discipline, preferably from a top-tier university.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts and architectural decisions.

  • High ownership mindset with the ability to independently drive technical initiatives.

Preferred

  • Experience building domain-specific languages (DSLs), formula engines, rule engines, workflow platforms, or orchestration systems.

  • Previous experience as a founder or founding engineer.

  • Background building financial infrastructure, accounting systems, or other correctness-critical software.

  • Teaching assistant experience or a demonstrated passion for mentoring and technical collaboration.

  • Startup experience building foundational platform architecture from the ground up.

  • Strong system design skills with experience creating extensible platform primitives.

  • Comfortable working directly with executive leadership in a highly collaborative environment.

  • Interest in AI-assisted engineering workflows and developer productivity.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary: $180,000–$230,000.

  • Competitive equity package.

  • Sign-on bonus available for exceptional candidates.

  • Hybrid work environment in New York City.

  • Visa sponsorship available for H-1B transfers (new H-1B sponsorship is not available).

  • Opportunity to work on technically sophisticated financial infrastructure at a rapidly growing Series B company recognized on the Forbes Fintech 50, with significant ownership and a strong track record of internal career growth.
