We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with a passion for building enterprise-grade software to join our team. We value no-nonsense code and take pride in the simplicity and effectiveness of the systems we build. Our backend is built on Java, C, Postgres, and Kubernetes; our frontend uses React and TypeScript.

This is a full-time position based in our Novi Sad, Serbia office. Our hybrid work model offers a blend of remote flexibility and in-person collaboration, including two days in the office each week to connect and build as a team.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the design, development, and debugging of features for Fivetran’s customers.


• Manage and lead projects simultaneously, collaborating with stakeholders to ensure timely and high-quality delivery in an iterative development environment.


• Maintain and enhance existing features; advocate for improvements in the codebase and infrastructure.


• Uphold high standards for code quality, performance, scalability, and reliability through thorough testing and code reviews.


• Collaborate with engineers across teams on cross-functional projects to create innovative solutions.


• Help ensure Fivetran remains the most reliable and secure part of our customers’ data stack.


• Stay informed about emerging technologies and development trends; advocate for improvements in tooling and methodologies.


• Partner with the Customer Success and Go-To-Market teams to resolve complex customer issues and support company growth.


• Participate in the on-call rotation periodically.


• Take part in the hiring process and mentor junior developers.

Skills We’re Looking For

• 7+ years of experience in software engineering with a strong track record of solving complex problems.


• Deep understanding of object-oriented programming, preferably in Java.


• Proven ability to write well-structured, performant, and maintainable code.


• Demonstrated success in leading and delivering large-scale, complex projects.


• Proficient in defining project requirements and designing corresponding systems and infrastructure.


• Ability to break down customer requirements into actionable engineering tasks.


• Comfortable improving and refactoring existing codebases.


• Understanding of how to build high-performance systems and processes.


• Passion for mentoring and helping others grow.


• Analytical mindset with the ability to identify design flaws and drive system improvements.


• Experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).


• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.


• Familiarity with observability tools (e.g., New Relic, Grafana) is a plus.


• Experience with CI tools like BuildKite or CircleCI.

Bonus Skills

• Experience with data processing (ETL/ELT) and modern data platforms.


• Background in building cloud-native solutions using tools like Kubernetes, Docker, GCP, AWS, or BuildKite.


• Experience with dbt.
