Job Description - Senior Special Assets Manager

The Senior Special Assets Manager will be a direct report to the Chief Credit Officer with responsibility for managing a diverse portfolio of stressed banking relationships, including complex C&I, CRE, Specialty Finance, SBA, consumer loans, and other special assets. This role involves proactive monitoring, developing and executing problem loan resolution plans, and interacting with Senior Credit Officers, the Chief Credit Officer, Relationship Managers, Clients, and third parties.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Management:

Responsible for management and oversight of the problem loan portfolio to ensure all information in the file is up to date and fully documented at all times.
Regularly document updates on relationships through applicable internal memos and forms.
Maintain detailed knowledge of the relationship at GBC through review of approval and annual review memos, legal documentation, and discussions with outside counsel.
Develop and execute workout strategies, including negotiation of forbearance agreements and handling legal correspondence. Continuously evaluate and refine resolution strategies to enhance the Bank’s ability to achieve the least cost resolution.
Engage with internal and external clients, consultants, and legal counsel to determine and develop appropriate resolution strategy for the relationship and to proactively assess potential bank risk and discuss with appropriate parties within the Bank.
Schedule, conduct, and report on monthly portfolio collection calls for timely communication and follow-up to ensure that past dues remain low and manageable.
Order and manage environmental reports, appraisals, and inspections as applicable.
Manage the foreclosure process from initiation through completion, including coordination with legal counsel and servicers, and oversee the handling, marketing, and disposition of Other Real Estate Owned (OREO) assets to maximize recovery and minimize holding costs.

Credit and Legal Analysis:

Complete internal forms, modification memos, and approval memos as necessary with recommendations and detailed legal and financial credit analysis.
Prepare, review, and negotiate transaction-related documentation.
Utilize knowledge of the bankruptcy process to determine how specific resolution strategies may be impacted by the potential for a bankruptcy.
Ensure compliance with risk management policies, including all Bank policies and procedures, with a focus on preserving Bank capital and reputation.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or equivalent education and training.
Ten years of banking industry or related experience including prior history of special assets.
Experience in origination or portfolio management of commercial real estate, specialty finance and general commercial and industrial deals.
Proficient in financial modeling and proforma analyses.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
