SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant will play a critical role in the financial management and reporting of grant funds or budget at Santa Fe Recovery Center. This position requires a skilled accountant with a strong understanding of grant compliance, organizational budgeting, and financial analysis. The Staff Accountant will collaborate closely with program directors and external stakeholders to ensure the efficient and effective use of grant resources, all while championing a spirit of teamwork and camaraderie within our finance team and across the organization. This position may be considered for a hybrid work schedule.

POSITIONS SUPERVISED:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Manage all aspects of grant accounting, including the monitoring and reporting of expenditures, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and private granting agency regulations.
· Prepare and submit accurate and timely financial reports to grantors and stakeholders, ensuring transparency and accountability in the use of grant funds.
· Conduct comprehensive financial analysis to assess grant performance, identifying trends, and recommending adjustments to improve financial outcomes and sustainability.
· Collaborate with program staff to develop budgets for grant proposals, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and the effective allocation of resources.
· Implement and maintain grant accounting policies and procedures to safeguard the integrity of financial operations and protect against fraud or misuse of funds.
· Reconcile grant-related accounts and prepare journal entries as necessary to maintain the accuracy of the general ledger.
· Assist in the preparation for audits related to grants, responding to auditor inquiries and providing necessary documentation and support.
· Stay updated on changes in grant funding regulations, accounting standards, and nonprofit financial reporting requirements.
· Provide training and support to program managers and staff regarding budget management and financial reporting for grants.
· Work with the accounting team to assist with monthly close, annual audit and other tasks as needed.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
· Strong knowledge of federal and state grant guidelines and regulations, along with an understanding of nonprofit financial management practices.
· Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Excel; experience with financial reporting systems is a plus.
· Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work with complex financial data.
Preferred Skills:
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external stakeholders.
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
· Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with a focus on grant management and fund accounting within a nonprofit or similar setting. *
