Senior Staff Backend Engineer - FDE

We deploy on customer terms: SaaS multi-tenant, SaaS single-tenant, and on-premises, across AWS, Azure, and GCP. Our customers are Fortune 500 finance teams who require data isolation, auditability, and compliance.

The Role

The Senior Staff Backend Engineer at MeeruAI owns the core computation services of the platform, turning curated financial and operational data into correct, reproducible, and fully traceable results.

This is the structured engineering beneath the product: not dashboards or an LLM wrapper, but the services that do the heavy computation and stand behind every number the platform produces. That output sits next to externally reported financials, so every result must be traceable to source, reproducible, and auditable, and nothing is quietly adjusted to make the math look complete.

You build reusable, configuration-driven computation components, enforce guardrails over automated output, and lead the backend team technically, partnering with data, AI, and product to turn domain logic into robust services.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the core computation services. Build the services that perform the platform’s financial and operational computation, with every result traceable to its source inputs and backed by quality and confidence signals.
• Write set-based computation that is correct, then fast. Express complex logic over the warehouse, guarantee results reconcile and reproduce, and own the performance and cost of the core services.
• Build the configuration runtime. Execute per-domain configuration so new domains and use cases arrive through configuration, never a bespoke code path, and keep the component library extensible.
• Enforce controls and auditability. Guardrails over automated output in code, a controls and feature-flag system to scope or disable automated behavior per tenant or feature, and audit logging and lineage end to end.
• Build for customer-hosted, multi-tenant deployment. Services that run inside a customer’s environment across clouds with strong isolation and no data egress.
• Lead technically. Set patterns, review designs, and mentor the backend team.

• Staff+ backend engineering. Typically 8+ years or equivalent experience in backend engineering (Python, Go, Java, or similar), including significant Staff+ time owning complex, data-intensive systems.
• An obsession with correctness. Traceability, testability, and “every result is explainable and reproducible” are requirements to you, not goals.
• Elite SQL and data modeling. Window functions, large-scale joins, and rigorous reasoning about correctness and performance.
• Configuration-driven architecture. You’ve designed extensible service architectures that absorb new cases through configuration.
• Strong system design. Reliability, isolation, and reproducibility.

Nice-to-Have

• Finance or accounting domain. Or a genuine willingness to learn how financial statements are built and reconciled.
• Data and platform tooling. dbt, Snowflake or PostgreSQL, Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
• Customer-hosted, multi-tenant deployment. Shipping services into environments you don’t control.
• ML and LLM exposure. Enough fluency with statistical workflows and LLM application patterns to integrate them well.
• Regulated environments. Building auditable systems where audits are routine.
