Job Brief
This role will be integral to the technical performance advancement at Twelve. We are developing innovative materials and processes to establish Twelve as a world leader in carbon transformation. You will be working in a collaborative and fluid startup environment. As a senior staff polymer chemist, you are responsible for developing new polymer products for Twelve’s technology through advanced applied research. The abilities to develop and communicate technical strategies, generate compelling ideas, and push for their implementation are all key parts of this role. You should have relevant education and required skills, demonstrate strategic thinking, be highly motivated to learn and adopt new concepts and be capable of handling the ambiguity and the inherent uncertainties associated with material innovation.

This is a full-time position based in Berkeley, CA.

What you will do
Lead the development of new ion-conducting polymers

Work with the material process development team to enable the scale up of novel polymer materials for company objectives

Partner with cross-functional teams to advance new products and solve technical problems towards commercialization and company objectives

Summarize and interpret results and application data to build knowledge around polymer materials

Draft proposals for both government and private funding agencies and coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure their progress

Author technical reports, government grant progress reports, and present technical results to internal and external audiences

Provide mentorship to other team members

Who you are
Have a deep understanding of polymer materials including synthetic chemistry, structure-property relationship (transport, mechanical properties), characterization techniques

Have experience in designing and developing ion-conducting polymer products for electrochemical energy storage/conversion devices in an industrial setting

Have experience in polymer synthesis scale-up from gram scale to kg scale

Ability to synthesize and test hypotheses and communicate results to a diverse audience

Ability to partner with business development and other cross-functional teams on company goals and deliverables

Exceptional communication skills, high attention to detail and strong organizational skills

United States Wage Range: $180,000 - $225,000 USD

Please note that some pay bands may have wide ranges of compensation to accommodate candidate's diverse sets of skill levels.
