This is a three 3 year after appointment TERM position. Continued employment in this position is contingent upon renewal of term.

This position is open only to:

Current Montgomery County Government employees
Montgomery County employees who were affected by reduction-in-force and currently have RIF priority rights
Active Montgomery County local fire and rescue department volunteers with at least 50 points under the length of service award program (LOSAP)
Active Project SEARCH Interns or former Montgomery County Customized Employment Public Interns, or Project SEARCH Interns within 24 months of completion of internship.

Montgomery County Office of the Sheriff is recruiting to fill the position of Senior Supply Technician . The position will be responsible to assist, as directed by the Chief Deputy or designee, to provide for the onsite operational support of delegated aspects of the ordering, researching, stocking, allocation and distribution of supplies, uniforms, and equipment for the Sheriff's Office employees.

Most of the workday will be spent in direct customer assistance working in the Supply Section. Employee will also be responsible for providing recommendations on a wide range of gear, supplies, and equipment used by the Office, developing specification for commodities as well as newer technologies that may be evaluated for use. Employee will provide recommendations regarding timing of replacement equipment, scheduling of officer fittings, distribution of equipment used in emergency situations and mass issuance of gear for all employees. Research availability and address issues regarding specialized and out of stock supply orders, shipments, and acts as liaison with vendors to resolve issues. Create purchase orders, DPO's, process invoices for payment and utilize a PCARD.

Employees in this position will be responsible for serving as the evidence custodian for the Sheriff's Office. Maintaining custody and transporting items of evidentiary value will be a daily component of the employee's responsibilities. On occasion, the employee will be required to operate a County vehicle, transporting items to the appropriate facility for storage, testing, or transfer of custody.

The ideal candidate must have the ability to think analytically, communicate effectively and handle communications and negotiations decisively with tact, resourcefulness, and good judgement, even in confrontational or challenging situations, working well with a broad range of individuals in an honest, respectful, and professional manner.

Candidate will need to become knowledgeable of Union agreements, Office policy, guidelines, SOP's, and other guiding regulations/law pertinent to this position. The candidate must have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a team member to effectively lead operations in the supply section.

This position requires the ability to legally operate County vehicles such as passenger vehicles, vans, and box trucks (non-CDL) in performance of job duties including the transport of goods and equipment as needed.

In addition to performing administrative tasks in an office or at a computer workstation, employee will regularly work in a storeroom/warehouse/loading dock environment involving the receipt/inventory tracking and distribution of shipments in a receiving area as well as movement of items that are 20 pounds or more, and occasionally items weighing approximately 50 pounds. At times, the employee may move heavier items alone, or with assistance, by lifting, pushing, shoving, rolling, leveraging, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience : Three (3) years of experience involving the research, ordering, receiving, stocking, inventorying and distribution of supplies and parts peculiar to the department/agency to which the position is assigned.

Education : Graduation from high school or possession of a High School Certificate of Completion recognized in the State of Maryland.

Equivalency : An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Physical Ability : Ability to perform some physically demanding work such as prolonged standing and lifting and carrying, or otherwise moving, tools, parts, specialized gear and other supplies or equipment weighing 20 pounds or more, and occasionally items of 50 pounds or more, using lifts hand trucks, dollies and means of leverage or assistance of others for movement of heavier items.

LICENSE : Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class C (or equivalent) driver's license from the applicant's state of residence

Preferred Criteria

There is no Preferred Criteria. All applicants will be reviewed by OHR for minimum qualifications. Those applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be rated Qualified, placed on the Eligible List, and may be considered for an interview.

Preference for interviews will be given to applicants with experience in the following:
Experience handling inventory for a large/complex agency using automated inventory and financial software systems.
Experience creating inventory reports, analysis for spending projections and tracking purchase orders as well as contract requirements.
Experience managing and tracking warranty and expiration dates of serialized assets to project replacement schedules in Microsoft Access or an equivalent database.
Experience creating supplier requisitions, receiving, reconciling, and approving supplier invoice payments electronically in a major ERP financial system such as Oracle or an equivalent system.
Experience using computers, software applications such as Excel, and office equipment.
