PEMCCO is seeking a highly experienced Senior Transit Radio Engineer to provide expert technical leadership in support of a large urban multi‑modal transit system. This role delivers senior‑level guidance in troubleshooting, optimization, design review, system transition, and performance validation of complex radio communications systems operating within active rail environments. The selected candidate will serve as an embedded technical resource within a live operating setting, supporting underground system diagnostics, spectrum transition initiatives, infrastructure modernization, and structured reporting to agency stakeholders.

Essential Functions
Conduct detailed RF field surveys, system performance measurements, and structured troubleshooting activities.
Perform root cause analysis of elevated noise floor conditions and uplink degradation within underground transit systems.
Troubleshoot DAS, leaky feeder, headend, repeater, antenna, and associated radio infrastructure.
Develop corrective action plans and implement system modifications to restore or enhance performance.
Lead installation oversight, system integration, testing, and commissioning activities.
Develop structured test plans and validate system performance through measurable acceptance criteria.
Review vendor submittals for technical compliance and integration alignment.
Support and contribute to development and execution of radio systems frequency transition framework activities (900 MHz to 800 MHz) with minimal impact to rail and bus operations, including cutover sequencing, operational continuity planning, and transition risk mitigation.
Prepare structured daily, weekly, and monthly technical progress reports.
Coordinate field activities within active rail environments, including right-of-way access and safety compliance.
Identify obsolete radio equipment and cabling suitable for removal and support documentation updates.
Monitor assigned task funding levels and notify project leadership upon reaching the 80% funding threshold, supporting budget visibility and responsible contract execution.

Required Qualifications
Minimum 10 years of experience in radio communications system design, installation, troubleshooting, testing, and commissioning.
Demonstrated experience supporting public safety, transit, or large-scale infrastructure radio systems.
Experience performing root cause analysis for RF noise floor and interference conditions.
Experience supporting or participating in 900 MHz to 800 MHz spectrum transition initiatives.
Experience reviewing vendor technical submittals.
Experience coordinating field activities within active operational environments.
Proven ability to generate structured technical reports and communicate findings clearly.
Working knowledge of FCC regulatory compliance requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting metropolitan transit agencies or rail authorities.
Experience with P25 trunked systems and public safety radio infrastructure.
Experience supporting mountaintop or remote RF site upgrades.
Project management exposure including schedule development and milestone tracking.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
Certifications / Licenses
Relevant RF, telecommunications, or spectrum-related certifications preferred.
Valid driver’s license required.
Ability to obtain and maintain required rail safety and right-of-way certifications.

Compensation • $64 – $88 hourly, depending on experience, ability, capability, and certifications.
