Senior Underground Transmission Line Engineer

Welty Energy, an affiliate of Welty, is a professional services company specializing in program and project management, transmission line engineering, substation engineering and construction oversight on transmission, substation and distribution projects ranging in voltages from 4kV to 765kV. Headquartered in Akron, OH, and working nationally, Welty Energy currently manages approximately $500 million in construction projects for electric utilities in the Midwest and Northeast regions of the U.S.

As a Senior Underground (UG) Transmission Line Engineer, you will lead projects utilizing a team of engineers and designers to provide design services for our utility clients. This role is remote with travel to client site as required (15-20%); this means the remote position is to be based in or around the Boston, MA area. 

Responsibilities:

• Lead the design of underground transmission line projects with a team of engineers and designers.


• Design complex underground transmission line systems, including duct bank design and cable pulling calculations.


• Coordinate with cable suppliers to specify line components.


• Oversee the development of construction specifications and drawings as required per project.


• Perform QA/QC reviews of all work product.


• Perform site visits when necessary.


• Provide mentoring to junior team members.


• Assist with the preparation of proposals.


• Interface with client’s engineering groups and project management teams to provide regular and timely updates.


• Participate in the preparation of training materials.

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering at an ABET accredited university


• Minimum of 8 years of experience as an Underground Transmission Line Engineer


• PE License and NCEES Registration strongly preferred


• Familiarity with applicable design codes and standards.


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
