Job Description - Senior VFX Artist - DCUO


Position Title: Senior VFX Artist


Studio/Department: DCUO


Employee Type: Full Time, Regular


Location:  Remote (Daybreak Approved Remote Locations (CA, WA, TX, NY))


Salary Range: $90,000 - $110,000, pay may vary on location. 


 


Description:
As a Senior VFX Artist, you will play a crucial role in bringing our game environments and characters to life through dynamic visual effects. You will work closely with designers, artists, and engineers to create high-quality particle effects, simulations, and other visual phenomena that enhance gameplay and storytelling.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Design and implement high-quality visual effects for various game elements, including characters, environments, and UI.

  • Collaborate with art and design teams to ensure visual effects align with the overall aesthetic and technical requirements of the game.

  • Optimize and troubleshoot effects to maintain performance across different hardware platforms.

  • Mentor junior artists and provide guidance on best practices and techniques in FX art.

  • Stay current with industry trends and technologies to continually enhance the quality and efficiency of visual effects production.


 


Qualifications:



  • 10+ years of experience as a VFX Artist in the game industry.

  • Strong portfolio showcasing complex, diverse, high-quality real-time effects (fire, smoke, magic, water, destruction).

  • Proficiency in development tools such as Unreal Engine, Unity, or similar engines, and software like Maya, Substance Designer, and Photoshop.

  • Solid understanding of art fundamentals, animation principles, and shader development.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; able to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Strong Leadership skills. Mentoring junior artists, making confident technical and artistic decisions, and owning entire features.


 


Bonus Skills:



  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Mel) for automation or custom tools.

  • Knowledge of game physics and rendering techniques.

  • Familiarity with both stylized and realistic art styles.
